Moving To Switzerland With Thai Wife

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm married to a wonderful Thai woman and as of now, we're currently both working and living here in Thailand. An opportunity has recently come up for us to be able to move to Switzerland (job) and am desperately trying to find more information on the process in general and detail. I've emailed the Swiss embassy and have yet to receive a reply, but in the mean time, would like some insight from someone who has gone through the same process before (nothing beats previous experience).

Would anyone be able to outline what is needed (the process) to immigrate to Switzerland (in the hopes of eventually obtaining Swiss citizenship for her). I also need to take my mother-in-law (would that even be possible - I surely hope so) with us, seeing how she is a widow and getting old - simply put, she needs her family.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated (tips, time frame, aspects that need special attention that could cause delays). I'm totally new to this process, so as anyone could imagine, am quite lost as to where and how to start the process. Many, many thanks for any insight!

Are you Swiss? If not, and you are of an EEA nationality, your wife and mother-in-law might qualify for free visas to enter Switzerland.

Scouse.

Yes, I'm Swiss. Does this entitle my wife and mother-in-law to any special privileges by chance? Thanks for the reply by the way!

Unfortunately not: it works the other way round. If you were a citizen of an EEA country your wife could get a free visa for Switzerland, but as you are Swiss, she will have to meet the requirements of the Swiss immigration rules, of which I'm afraid I have no knowledge.

Scouse.
