Crime Pattaya Hotel Denies Scammer Links Following Fatal Fall of Chinese Guest

A hotel in North Pattaya has strongly denied any links to scam operations after a Chinese national fell to his death from the sixth floor of the property, prompting the sudden departure of several other Chinese guests. The incident occurred on 4 July, when Liu Song, 24, a Chinese national, reportedly jumped from his hotel room in the Na Kluea Subdistrict of Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. According to police, Liu appeared to be intoxicated and was alone in the room at the time. Following his death, fellow Chinese guests staying on the same floor hastily packed up their belongings, including computer and streaming equipment and vacated the hotel, fuelling online speculation of possible involvement in illegal activities such as call centre scams. Police Colonel Anek Sarathong-ayu, Chief of Pattaya City Police, and Police Colonel Naphasapong Khositsuriamani, Chief of Chonburi Immigration, led officers to the scene on 5 July to conduct further inspections. During the operation, hotel representative Anirudh Kongthap informed police that the deceased had legally entered Thailand via Suvarnabhumi Airport and was a registered guest at the hotel. Anirudh stated that the mass exodus following the incident was driven by shock and fear among the guests, many of whom were reportedly families and not by attempts to evade legal scrutiny. “The equipment seen being removed was streaming gear used for TikTok and other online platforms,” he explained, adding that the hotel had attempted to contact the group and urged them to return to speak with authorities. Officers inspecting Liu’s room found no signs of a struggle or forced entry. Forensic teams are now awaiting toxicology and autopsy results. Meanwhile, some of the guests who fled have since been located and brought in for questioning. In an effort to demonstrate transparency, the hotel provided police with official documentation, including its operating licence and a two-year lease agreement with the building’s original owner. The hotel offers both daily and monthly rental options and mainly caters to Chinese and Indian tourists. The timing and manner of the guests’ departure, coupled with the presence of computer equipment, raised public concerns that the hotel may have been used as a base for illegal activities, such as those involving cyber scams or call centres. However, police say there is, as yet, no concrete evidence to support such suspicions. Investigators are continuing to assess the hotel’s operating history and any previous violations that may shed light on the case. Anirudh reiterated the hotel’s willingness to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation, stating: “We want to ensure the truth is known and will support the authorities in every step. The safety and reputation of our guests and establishment are our top priorities.” Authorities have urged the public to refrain from jumping to conclusions while investigations remain active.
