This will be about PR as always with these things. To date the government has done very well. Now with pictures of old people and kids in the middle of riot police it will be a lot lot harder for them especially as there do seem to be pictures of old people being hurt. This is getting messy.

Poll says foreigners disagree with use of force with PAD’s protest

Poll says Thailand’s image is still unaffected by political chaos as seen by foreigners and they think that the government should not use force to control the situation.

Director of the ABAC Poll Research Center Dr.Noppadon Kannikar (นพดล กรรณิกา) reports results of the survey on foreigners’ opinions on Thailand the ongoing political situation. The survey shows that the respondents are satisfied with many dimensions of the country and most of them or 61.5% have no knowledge about the government’s conflicts with the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD). Those who are acknowledged the conflicts say PAD’s rally at the Government House is a normal incident of the democratic system.

More than 76% of the foreigners think that the government should not resort to violence to disperse the protestors and as much as 97% say they will visit Thailand again in the future.

Police prepare to post court notices in 5 key areas

Secretary to the Interior Minister Supachai Jaisamutr (ศุภชัย ใจสมุทร) revealed after a meeting with the Interior Minister and high ranking police officers that 5 key points have been selected to post notices for the People's Alliance for Democracy announcing the case warrant against them.

One hundred fifty police officers will be dispatched to each area to post the notices including Makkhawan bridge and the Equestrian Statue. Police will monitor orderliness of the posts for the time being.

Once the notices are posted they will also be declared through public address systems and the announcement will officialize the awareness of the protesters and obligate them to leave the area.

If police are met with opposition, or if any individuals attempt to destroy the notices, they will be charged with interfering with official business and be sentenced to 1 year in prison or fined 2,000 baht.

Police start dispersing PAD protestors

About 1,000 police officers are breaking fences set up by the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) in front of the Ministry of Education and the Metropolitan Police Headquarters to approach the protestors’ stage at Misakawan (มิสกวัน) Junction.

PAD built barriers by water tanks to prevent police from entering the area of the demonstration. The officers are now 100 meters away from the protestors. It takes around ten minutes for the officers to break the fences and station themselves at Misakawan Junction. No one has been injured by police’s operation.

Another group of anti-riot police have successfully entered the Government House which has been seized by the protestors. The officers are blocking the protestors from entering and leaving the Government House compound.

You have to question the veracity of reports by organizations that make claims that differ from what is shown live on TV

PAD just wants this government to resign and own up to their crimes. The PAD is not gonna appoint anybody. They don't wanna control the country. They just want to get rid of crooks who have ailed the country for the last 7 or 8 years or so.

Sometimes it's really laughable how un and il-informed some Anti-PAD crew are.

and replace them with who ?? Pallop ???

Or you really think that power vacum will just wait for free and fair democracy to arrive in Thailand.. Dont be so nieve.

Best we can hope for is the parliamentarians to sort it out themselves in a realignmnment towards center that clams the divides down. A longshot maybe.

If there is anything approaching an elected government 6 months from now, it will be a miracle. We may be watching the end of a democratic Thailand in the next couple of days.

Apparently the survey of the 1000 or so foreigners was done last night in Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza to ensure they did not get a representative sample !

I just watched the police beat up a read cross worker and some women without provocation on TV

http://wwitv.com/portal.htm?http://wwitv.c...nnels/b2973.htm

This government is toast now, no matter what happens. The people have won :-)

I just hope that the police violence will stop soon

Can you explain that??

Why?

Which people. Didn't the PEOPLE win at the last election?

We have seen a peaceful civil disobedience by the people of Thailand. The police responded with violence (teargas, cops with guns in their hands, old ladies and women getting beat up, first aid workers getting beat up by the police and TV footage of everything. This government is toast, no matter if you right wing captitalists like it or not LOL

I don't think any of us has a crystal ball to predict how this will turn out. This will run and run until those involved decide it is over.

IF you remove the posts of those that do have crystal balls, I think there'd be about 12 left.

Are you on the books too?

Govt is finally getting off their <deleted> and putting an end to this farce - few days too late I might add. Anywhere else in the world - these pad scum would be running for the hills. How can one take the govt seriously when you allow all govt business to be preoccupied with this nonsense? It's one thing protesting in a civil manner, but you cross the line when you raid tele stations, govt buildings, and police hq. It's silly and if you let the PAD get away with this then you invite anyone who doesnt like what you do, to do the same.

You have to question the veracity of reports by organizations that make claims that differ from what is shown live on TV

(BangkokPost.com) - Police demolished the main stage of People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) at Makkhawan Rangsan bridge and removed tents around the site Friday, as hundreds others forced their way back into the Government House to deliver a court order for the eviction of protesters trying to overthrow the government.

The protesters were outnumbered, and could not obstruct the police's action.

Police were able to seize baseball bats and iron rods from the site. They also claimed that they found drugs there.

Although we've never actually met I gather you're a business owner, and like all foreign business owners in Thailand I've spoke to over the past few days about this there's been nothing but groans about the PAD - many a customer calling up and asking if everything is "safe"....

But does bloodshed really look any better? A PM who has just proven to the world he can't keep his word for, what, 12 hours? Why couldn't the govt send a mediator to the protests and set up some sort of dialogue before letting this happen?

Mostly anywhere else in the world, these successive governments filled with criminals and frauds would never see the light of day.

The government can and should stop this action and restore a since of order, i also believe the rail roads to be a critical transportation system for many Thai's. The government should clamp down hard on these rail road engineers. People are breaking the law, its as simple as that, they are nothing but criminals, and should be dealt with as such...

Mostly I am angry becouse it puts the wife in a bad mood, i hate to listen to it all day. lol

Couldn't get the exact translation, but the head of the big Union (electric, etc.) just announced a few minutes ago, that if one of the PAD leaders is taken, all their membership will march on the cops (over 13000 more people), plus there are more buses of protesters arriving as we speak

Why did they illegally occupy a govt building? This was all started by the PAD, so whatever happens the PAD is responsible. :o

The Ex(iled) PM just called to ask me to let you know that your "gratuity" is ready for you to pick up at Jenny's ! :D

sorry guys,

can someone give me an update. Are the police inside the goverment compounds as well. Will it be over soon. Or are they just clearing the street surrounding.

regards

You can get live coverage here. The right of the screen shows live speaches by the PAD and the left shows some of the police brutality that has already happened. (the beating up of old women by police, police hitting people with their sticks, one police man holding a handgun out in a protesters face, as they take down one of the gates (so much for cops not being armed :-(

the presence of children buffering the protesters from the police ... speaks volumes.

what volumes? speak out! you are obviously a stranger who does not have and/or does not love children. the thai people are different! they love their families and children and take them where ever they go. they would never have such a perverted thought. a much better protection against police brutality is holding a certain 'unspeakable' picture over your head and wait for the television to broadcast nationwide how the brutes have to hit this picture first before they can club your head..............

So taking children to civil disobedience and law breaking events where genuine danger lies is indicative of 'Thai love' ??

Looking at the amount of weapons coming out from inside the piles of rubbish, I think we should thank god no one on either side saw fit to use a gun. They could have used a massive amount more force than they have so far.
