Using Atm The Other Way

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever tried to withdraw funds from a Thai bank account from outside of Thailand?

Using an ATM to get funds from abroad never seems to be a problem, but what about going the other way.

I tried it once in Hong Kong and the ATM failed to recognize the account.

Any insight? Thanks.

Yes Bangkok Bank have an international debit card and cashpoint card - You do pay an annual fee for this, but it works (on passbook savings accounts)

I used my SCB cash card at a branch of Lloyds TSB in the UK to see what would happen - to my suprise it worked :o however was only for £10

We opened a few accounts for this purpose (never know when a card might break).

Siam - able to take out 40.000 baht a day.

Kasikorn - 40.000 baht a day. (Although we asked for 100.000 a day which was not a problem TiT)

Khrungsri - 100.000 baht a day.

what was also difficult is transfering money from Thailand to in my case The Netherlands. I had to show the bills i had to pay with Kasikorn, with Krungsri i had to leave a copy of my passport.

This was for sending a few hundred euros to my grandmother, so no bills. In the end it was not possible with either bank. Solution was i borrowed it from a family member and send the ATM card to The Netherlands so they could take it out there.

Now i am in Austria and use mainly the Krungsri card without problems.

No problem with my Bangkok Bank standard ATM card. No special card or fees.

Have done it in a few countries including UK, turkey, singapore , hong kong.

There is a limit on amount but I think it is just the same as here. Two withdrawals of 20,000 baht a day.

I dont think there was any special registration needed but it was several years ago when I started using it in Turkey. Cant remember for sure. Best ask at your bank.

I used my Bangkok Bank ATM card in China once. No problems at all, but I was charged a 100 baht fee by BKK Bank. Thats been a few years ago, so maybe its "fee free" now :o

18 months ago, I withdrew $600 (at that time about 22,000 Baht) from my SCB account, using a normal ATM card, at an ATM in the USA. I think about a 20-baht fee, and got a normal exchange rate.

No problems when I've tried, but I'd question whether you'd be able to so indefinitely at max levels everyday year in/out. (the other way INTO Thailand, the BOT has no issues with that).

:o
