All you need to make your own is 2 cups of icing sugar (Confectioners sugar in the US) 2 cups of ground almonds or 8 ounces of finely roasted or lightly DRY fried almonds (Whole almonds can be easily powdered with a pestle and mortar) , 3 egg whites, and a few drops of food colouring and almond essence if you feel it needs it.

Just powder the almonds, mix in the sugar, and then gradually add the egg whites to form a thick paste. If it needs it then add the essence and the colouring.

Thanks for the recipe.

I may have to go that way as I have not located the ready made item yet.

However I did find the blanched almonds in Foodland, 283 g (10 oz) for 111baht.

I know a guy in Canada that just paid $30 for a kilo of marzipan paste because his wife wanted christmas cake. The cake was great but a bit pricey.

Try Tesco's n The Sukhumvit Rd.

Should be on offer this time of year.  :o

No chance, this is Thailand, and they are still dictated by Thai tastes.

UK Tesco products have not lasted for long on the shelves, before being withdrawn.

I ended up making my own marzipan and it worked quite well.

So what are they selling? This is Pattaya we speak! You would be hard pressed not to see farangs six deep in front of you at the check-out. :o

Unfortunately most of the Tesco customers are Thai, with Thai tastes.

For farang items you will still do better at Foodland, or Friendship.

Just came across the shop "Piece of Cake" on Naklua Road, about two Miles off the Dolphin roundabout, on the right side.

They have everything you might ever have dreamed of, in relation to Marzipan and the likes ......
