Latest Info for Driving into Los.

(Source: The Star (Malaysia) dated 20th August 2003).

Must declare their vehicles at Thai Customs check-point.

Must purchase a Thai Insurance and submit a photocopy of their registration card to the customs officers for clearance.

It is learnt that some 300 Malaysian vehicles have seized after the drivers failed to produce valid documents when stopped by Thai authorities. Under Thai regulations, the vehicles can be seized and held for 30 days after which they could be auctioned off to Thai nationals. : ???

I have two urgent questions to ask. Please help.

No. 1

Is it true that drivers with Singaporean or Malaysian driving licence are " legally " allowed to drive in to Thailand ?

No. 2

I understand that they have to purchase a Thai (Motor Car) Third Party Insurance policy. The policy is written in Thai, and I was told that it may include a term " valid driving licence ". If a fatal accident were to happen..... involving a Thai national, will the policy covers the above mentioned foreigners ?

Your good advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
