Any Ideas? short term loan ideas

Featured Replies

Can all you geniuses put your thinking caps on please! I am looking for any organizations or indeed individuals with interests in short term loans. I need 2.5 - 3 million baht and will repay in 18 months with a 20% return. The loan ( plus return) will be secured. The exchange rate is hitting too hard with money transfers from the UK, so I have calculated a better solution to save me money and stress, with the opportunity for a good guaranteed return for an investor. Thai banks take too long (3 mths), and you are all aware what the situation is like with bank loans at the moment. I own a good company operating world-wide. Any ideas much appreciated

Tigs give me your bank a/c details i'll send you the money no probs!

Not too helpful Samui but thanks anyway.

It seems in Thailand that if one wants to borrow short term and cannot use a bank , even with a guarantee , the rates are 3-5% a month - so perhaps a 20% return over 18 months is a bit low .

In 18 months, the baht value may be far lower (for instance its exchange rate against major currencies) than what it is now. It has already lost almost 10% against the dollar during the 6 last months (but in the meanwhile, the baht is 24% higher against the pound and 14% against the euro). Those are great variations in a very short time. I won't bet on the money exchange rates at the moment, and it's a risky bet to grant somebody such a loan, even with a 20% return...

...

Only if foreign currency is used to provide the loan. If the lender has Baht to lend, there is no exchange rate risk.

Of course, but there's also an inflation risk and that can be partly related with foreign currencies exchange rate variations.

Thanks.

Thanks for some of the ideas guys. I am of course looking for a bank/investment organisation/individuals, who would specialise in a loan in Baht rather than another foreign currency, which would be far too volatile at the moment. The banks take their chances, as for individual investors I understand the potential problems with Inflation, but would work with the individual to ensure a win win. The reason for persuing this course of action is to ensure good cash flow for my company in the UK, and to allow my continued investment in Thailand, which is being hit by adverse exchange rates between here and the UK. Therefore I have changed the plan to use 'in country currency' to allow me to achieve my goals, and an investor to achieve a comfortable guaranteed return, which would be much better than market rates. Any venture capital organisations in Thailand that work with expats? I do not want to work with an investor that cannot provide a loan in Baht and have it repaid in Baht. Thanks again

Thailand is full of loan sharks if your venture is sound then it may be your best solution.
