Q. I will renew my Non-Immigrant visa this September and apply for a one year extension. Last year I was in and out within 30 minutes! However, my passport expires in March 2004. Will immigration grant me a Non-Immigrant visa with a one year extension transferable in March to my new passport, or should I renew my passport now to avoid any possible hiccups and the inevitable added expense?

I am thinking on a good day I'll be in and out within 30 minutes and then simply renew my passport and transfer the visa and 1 year extension in March. But, on a bad day and in the current climate I am expecting my NI visa and extension to March 2004 only at the best. Your opinion would be hugely appreciated.

First step is to get a new passport. Bring both to Immigration. They will both transfer the old visa and give you a new extension at the same time. Do not travel now, that can be problematic.
