Hello All !

I have been studying in Thailand at a university and came with a Non-Im. Visa into the country.

With a letter of the university my non-immigrant visa had been prolonged for the study time at my university [ 1 year ]

Right now I have finished my studies and I am waiting for the acceptance of another institution in Bangkok for my Master studies.

However, my visa is expiring very soon and since the "Master"-University cannot grant an admission paper before the admission tests

will have taken place I need to know, if I can just go abroad and come back with a 30 day tourist visa [ maybe even with an extension of another 60 days ] in order to stay in Thailand before I can keep on studying.

Since there is a limited allowance for tourist visas I am wondering if the time which I have been staying in Thailand with my non-immigrant visa counts or if the entrance with a newly issued tourist visa will be treated seperately.

Thanks in advance !

We have to know what country your passport is issued from to be able to help. A 30 day border stamp is not a visa it is a visa exempt entry and is not available to all nationalities.

I would suggest possibly a trip to Laos and getting a double entry tourist visa ...

The following will depend upon what country you are from.

You can go to Vientiane Laos and get a 2 entry tourist visa which by extending the 60 day permit to stay for 30 days for each entry allows you you can stay for about 90 days and then do a border run and return doing the 60 + 30 days again.

If you get paperwork from the university again you can change back to an ED visa from a tourist visa.

There is no restriction on time spent in the country unless you are using 30 day visa exempt entries.Which is 90 days in a period of 6 months from first entry.

Thank you so much ! Well I am holding a German Passport.

So does it mean I go to Lao [ is it just Vientiane or can I also go to another border ? ] , apply there for a 2 entry tourist visa, and try to have the first entry extended up to in total 90 days. Can you tell me how to apply there for the 60 days + ? Does it really mean that I can stay up to 180 days ? That would absulutely fit with receiving the paperwork from the university in order to change back to ED Visa. Last Question: Do you have an idea about the costs for the 2 entry visa ? Is it those 1900 Baht?

Thank you again !!!!!!

You apply for visas at embassies and consulates. A double entry tourist visa with the extensions gives approx 180 days stay in Thaiand

A double entry Tourist Visa from Vientiene. 2,000 Baht.

Yes this would give you almost 6 months.

Note that you will lose a day or two from your first 30 day extension in order to make your Visa Run before the Visa expires.

From Vientiene they only have a 3 month life span.

From Bangkok the Thai consulate in Vientiane is the nearest where you can get a 2 entry tourist visa (2000 baht). You will have to spend at least one night there. You fill out an application, give them your passport, copy of passport photo page and 2 photos the morning of one day and pick-up your passport with visa stamp the next afternnoon.

There is no trying to get your 60 day stay extended (1900 baht) for 30 days that is what you will get. After that 90 days you would make a border run (Cambodia is nearest) and return the same day using the 2nd entry and repeat the 60 + 30 day extension. That gives you about 180 days total.

Edit: Here is link to a 27 page topic on getting a visa in Vientiane suggest you start with last page and work your way back a few pages for the most up to date info. Pay attention to the don't go on Monday suggestion.
