Sorry to ask the question, have done plenty of searches but cannot seem to find the definite answer.

We're both British and married to each other, both have O-A visa's and next February I need to bring in the required 800,000 Baht for it's 90 day deposit prior to renewal of the visa. We have done the initial leave the country for the 2nd year renewal with no problem.

Question, I understand that I can make my wife my dependant and then only need to bring in just one 800,00 baht rather than double, is there any loss of privelidge so to speak by going down this route, I have been told that if only one of us wanted to leave Thailand for a holiday for instance back in the UK that it could cause a problem on that person coming back, any truth in that. And what documents would be needed for the renewal with wife as a dependant - just a copy of marriage certificate?. And are there any potential risks in going down the dependant route as against us both bringing in the required amount. Thanks.

The wife and I have use this method for the last 5 years with no problems at all the only difference is we use the pension letter for the 65k verse the 800k in the bank. The marrage certificate and the embassey letter ffor proof of funds is all we have been asked for and travel has never been a problem both passports are stamped the same.

The difference is that your wife would be a dependend of you. If your marriage ends (death or divorce), her permission to stay ends. Any grandfathered rights would not apply to her if she ever needs to get permission to stay on her own.
