Apologies if this info is already out there but I haven't been able to spot it.

I came to Thailand for a two-year work contract and so had two consecutive non-immigrant visas. Once the second one expired, I went to Vientiane for a double-entry tourist visa which effectively 'bought' me 6 months of which 2 are remaining. I would like to stay on several more months if possible. My question is, how soon after one tourist visa expires can you apply for another? Is there a specified amount of time you need to be out of the country? Any ideas how I can extend my stay?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

You can get a new visa as soon as the old one expires.

You can get as many visas as you want back to back.

Belated follow-up questions:

I'm currently in Mae Sot, Tak. I want to get a new tourist visa as cheaply as possible and travel time is not a major issue.

a) Please confirm that to maximise length of stay, a double-entry tourist visa is the best way to go.

B) And Vientiane is the best place to get one, right?

c) How do I get there? Bus to CNX then another to UTH or a lot less hassle to get bus to BKK then fly to UTH? (I'm told there's no bus from here straight through to Khon Khaen which would have been more direct.)

d) How do I find the thread that walks you through the border crossing?

Thanks for your patience.

A. Yes.

B. Yes.

C. From Mae Sod you can take a minibus to Pitsanulok. (should still be at the big market in Mae Sod). From there you can travel to Khon Khaen.

Thanks to both. Glad to hear I can go via Pitsanaluk. Couldn't locate the stuff on getting from Udon to Vientiane on that thread, though. Will look again...
