C.m. Police Checking Auto Emissions?

Featured Replies

I saw something yesterday that surprised me. At one of the motorcycle helmet checkpoints on Mae Jo Road, I noticed the police pulling over some older trucks and cars as well. While I was waiting for the light to change I was watching while the police went to the rear of the cars carrying a piece of equipment. I couldn't figure out what they were doing. I asked my g/f who was with me and she said that she read that they are now checking vehicle emissions in Chiang Mai.

Is this too good to be true? Will anything come out of it? Will anything change? Will the offenders with pollution coming from their exhaust just pay a small fine to the police and be done with it?

I just wish a check for all those polluting and stinking ancient red Song Thaews here in town - that would really help!

But the must be a big lobby behind, so I think, we can forget...
