There are big bangs all the time around here. Sometimes you know what they are because the power goes off. Sometimes they just disappear instantly into the realm of the unexplained. Even the dogs are uninterested. Bangkok is weird.

The most common is a power transformer exploding. It can be VERY loud.

Here in Thonglor we have about six a month. It is the power transformers blowing. Sometimes I can see the flash out of my window. Sometimes the power will go off, other times I suppose it is not my supply, but still feels close. I am told a truck then arrives with a newly wound transformer and swaps it in about 20 minutes, taking the old one away to re-wind, presumably just substandard enough to keep the whole lucrative process rolling.

was it a Gang.... 7:30am probably bit early for that carry on?

Mind you 07:30am in lower sukhumvit nothing suprises me.

As others have said these bangs are normally caused by transformers, its a bit startling but it happens all the time.
