Drug Charities, Drug Rehab, Etc

Featured Replies

Does anyone have experience of or know any charities, ngos or gos, etc who accept Foreign (farang) volunteer or non-volunteer (paid) workers that work with drug users in the city in any respect?

And how about drug rehab organisations for Thai users, or support etc.. does anything like this exist in the city?

Keep your 'funny' comments to yourself.. and thanks in advance :o

i don't know about bangkok but i asked about this before on behalf of an acquaintance with a problem and was recommended Wat Thamkrabok... i believe it is only a couple hours from BKK.

Many rehabs are available to volunteer at through AA and NA in Thailand. They are not affiliated but work closely with them and have the contacts. Good Luck.

Definitely go the AA/NA route. Plenty of experience there and people to point you in the right direction, including several people who either run or support recovery operations.

One of the difficulties you may face is that as a farang any employer will have to get you a work permit whether you are paid or a volunteer. This means employing 4 more Thai's. I face this problem all the time.

Also Thai rehabs (of which there are very few) will require fluency in Thai generally.

If you have any experience there are occassionally opportunities with the United Nations.

Good Luck
