I had 5 extensions based on support for my Thai child. The last one which ended in Nov. 2007 required me to sign a form stating due to a new rule requiring applicants to be 50 years old, this would be the last one (currently 46 years old). Now I am here with a non-immigrant O visa which expires late December.

I have read on other topics the 50 year old+ requirement for this type of extension is waived. Has anyone in the last few weeks confirmed this ?

Is the US embassy letter stating income enough to satisfy immigration or is something else required ?

Also, will this require a map to the house, pictures, visit from Bangkok Immigration etc. which I see on other topics? This was not the case for me before but maybe it is now since my extension streak ended?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, the age requirement for the extension of stay to live with Thai child no longer exists.

It is a the discretion of the immigration officer whether he wants to ask for supporting documents for the income stated in the embassy letter.

The requirement for additional documents and a visit by an immigration official is at the discretion of the immigration office as part of “proof of family relationship”

Some immigration offices ask to see a bankbook showing activity of money in and out but not the full amount of income letter/affidavit.

Just came back from Bangkok Immigration, 5 hour que !!!

besides that, everything went fine. I showed up with my embassy letter, child's birth certificate and a 140 baht box tin of cookies from carrefour.

Right when we sat down, my daughter handed the cookies over with a smile and 'happy new year'. It was then only an easy 10 minutes and my extension was approved. Then over to desk 1 for the supervisor's signature. There, the girl was scratching her head consulting with the other super over my age of 46. She went throught the regulations over and over but couldn't find the over 50 requirement, and eventually I was signed off and done, will return in Jan for the final stamp.

I'm stoked !

My wife disappeared 5 years ago, they do not ask for a marriage certificate since on the application I always write, 'support for Thai child'

Thanks for that. Just goes to prove that there is no consistency. Maybe because you have been doing this for a while.
