Do thai citizens need a visa for laos?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Seems to be confusion on the above topic. The Laos tourist web site states "all" need a visa for Laos. The Lonely Planet says "All non Thai passport holders need a visa for Laos".

I want to take my Thai GF on my next visa run. Laos is a good place to chill out for a few days.

thanks

Greg

Thais with passport need visa. Thais who plans to enter Laos with ID-card need a border pass. Check this thread.
Your girlfriend can get a three day border pass, cost 300 baht and two photos. No passport needed. If she go's over three days 300 baht a day fine. Really no problem. Laos is O.K. about visas as long as you have cash in your pocket!

It depends on the address of your girlfriends Thai ID card.  If her address is close to the Laos board, she can get a 3 day pass for a very small fee.  If she has an address such as Bangkok, then no she can't. (where she lives now, does not matter, its the address on her ID card that matters)  She will need a passport and have to pay the 1500 baht (30 USD) entry fee.

If you fly, you will also have a 400 baht (10 USD) exit tax.

This 3 day (can be extended to 6 days) pass is for both Laos and Thai citizens that work across the boarder.
