I'm going to a pub for turkey and all the trimmings.mmmmmmmm

For Christmas the pub in Korat it is for me, also for turkey and trimmings and "other" Christmas cheer. Then New Year's, cooking my own local grown (village) turkey. Did a pre-trial cooking of one a few days ago with oyster dressing. Yummy and even the Thai's were impressed with the oyster dressing (or were they just being polite?!)

Happy Holidays are upon us!

Will one be eating Turkey or Chicken with all the trimmings?

Turkey for moi. Actually I bought a completely finished smoked bird for the folks, so they wouldn't have to worry about it. No fuss, no muss.

Actually saw an interesting show last night on the "Beeb" in which a country chef was recreating a midievel type of Christmas meal. He made something called the 10-bird roast in which 9 different kinds of birds where seasoned and packed into a huge turkey. Let me see how many I can remember: (turkey, pheasant, goose, partridge, quail, woodcock, pigeon, chicken and the other two I can't remember). They went out and hunted for several of the birds and then stripped them down, prepared them and stuffed them into the turkey. The interesting part was watching them cut the turkey across the cross-section to show all the different birds.

Now I've gone and gotten myself hungry .... :o

The food i had was awsome. I had the Pate with cumberland sauce, turkey and all the trimmings, then the selection of cheeses. Followed by a coffee with brandy in it and mince pies. Really great value for 1000 baht. Though they do add tax onto that which they dont tell you till you get the bill. My gf had the duck terrine, then the beef and for dessert the mouse. These were great also. Totally stuffed afterwards.

I had Duck on Rice.... no chance of getting a Turkey, and Chicken just didn't seem special enough... :o

totster  :D

I was thinking of duck as an alternative but was afraid it might taste too much like cock. (think about it) :D

Seriously though, I eat chicken far too much anyway and could've bought a whole turkey from most any of the superstores. But I would've had no way to cook the <deleted>' thing if I did buy one. :D

It got me thinking, why don't the superstores sell turkey portions? I would've been willing to pay over the odds just for a nice bit of turkey breast instead of the whole bird. :D Or even tinned turkey come to think of it. :D
