These Gordamn Loud Speakers Are Doing My F#ing Head In!

I have built myself a little sanctuary in a small town near Lopburi.

Since coming back from Dubai last week the local government has put a loud speaker on the telegraph pole right outside our bedroom window.

I swear to Jesus Christ they start up at 5 in the morning and go on nearly all day long.

Not only that but some idiot comes around and rings a f#ing bell every hour in the middle of the night, all night long!!

The wife seems to be oblivious to all the racket...it's doing my head in.

Anyone else got this problem?

My sanctuary has turned into hel_l :o

We get the loudspeaker most mornings at 5.30. Our house is in the middle of two Phu Yai Baans so we get two different speaches and music at the same time. :o

My Wife tells me that where she lived once they had the bell every hour all night. so that people would know the time.

Mmm that's a bad one, as it wasn't there before. It's always advisable to check for things like that before moving into a new house but in your situation i can understand your pissed-offness. Can't think of a solution unless you go out in the middle of the night and take it down. Just get someone to ring a bell while you're doing it, that way no one will wake up.

I once had the exact same problem, I got the wife to have a word with the Puy Yai Ban to see if he could get the speaker moved down the Soi away from my house, It cost me 2,000 Baht and a box of beer , the next day the speaker was moved away

its the best 2,000 Baht ive ever spent :o

cut the wire mate! sometimes its easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Cut the wire well away from where the speaker is located & then rejoin the outer insulating sheath to make it look like it has never been broken, a bit of heat shrink or same coloured pvc tape should do the trick.

Should provide hours of amusement for yourself watching them trying to track down the problem. :o

Put a resistor in the wire so no matter how far they turn up the dial it will be a muted bleep. They likely can find a cut wire but a doctored wire is likely beyond them

Play really loud bagpipe music. Most Asians hate bagpipes and I have a lovely collection. Peibroch funeral music is specially annoying.

Or just pay to have it moved.

Yes bagpipes, brilliant idea!!

I shall march up and down our Soi at 5am and practice.

That should get some attention.

A word of warning if you're going to try the pin trick.

Do NOT do it whilst the speakers are operating, these PA systems use a 100V distribution amp (there are transformers in the speakers) and, unlike your hi-fi, can BITE!

Sounds like you can sort out the PA system easily. what you gonna do about the Bells every hour :o

Perhaps eventually his brain will learn to filter out the bloody Bells, as it hopefully did for the endless forking barking dogs! I continue to be amazed at the lack of concern about peoples' right (?) to a peaceful night's sleep. Occasionally about 5am some blasting flute music wakes everybody up in our neighborhood - I think for a party that day! Grrrr!!

That reminds me of the following:

A matronly old lady was saying to her friend, "Aren't those bells beautiful?"

Her friend's response: Huh?

She said again, "Aren't those bells absolutely lovely sounding?"

Response: WHAT!?!?

Twice again she repeated.

To which the friend finally stated heatedly, "Sorry, I CAN'T HEAR YOU BECAUSE OF THE BLOODY BELLS!!"

You could always move to Notre Dame (that's in Paris, France) for a bit of peace.

(In best manaical voice) "Esmeralda, the bells, the bells!!!!!!"

Our PA system is a bit further away and so we struggle to get exactly whats being said. It does seem to be usually about money. How much to the baht everyone donated for this and that , 10 baht from Porn, 10 baht from Ping, 10 baht from Pen , & 20 baht from iccilin , then there's the plea for a return of the money loaned from the Village fund which goes on deaf ears ;-)

I've got used to it. One time the local monk decided to do an arms round at 2am ringing bells which is why I have so much sympathy for the OP :o

On the rare occasion I have had to put up with it, ours were turned on just before 6am. We got Radio Ranong, and every morning the presenter used to say in English just after 6, "Good Morning today is ..." I almost fell out of my chair one morning when he got the day wrong. We never get it all day though, I think it is just a way to wake the folks up who have to go into Muang Ranong to work.

Sgt. Mc Kenzie...."lay me doon...in the cold cold groond".....over and over again, should prove amusing.
