Hi i have another topic on the go as well about a settlement visa for my sons wife, but this one is about an EEA family permit.

I am totally confused and dont even know if it would apply to them, my son is a UK citizen and his wife is Thai (they are both in Thailand at the moment). He was thinking about coming home to me in the UK but his brother (who lives in Ireland) has spoke to him and said that there is a job in Ireland for him if he wants it.

My question is could he apply for a EEA for his wife and go to Ireland, or would he still need to get a settlement visa.

Also if he then wanted to come to the UK from Ireland with her does he then have to apply for a visa from there. I have read all the info i can find but i cant work it out.

Thanks Kate

If your son is exercising his treaty rights to live and work in another EEA country, e.g. the Republic of Ireland, then his wife can apply for an EEA Family Permit to live with him there. She makes her application at the Irish embassy in Bangkok.

This would not allow her to enter the UK and if she were to wish to do so she would have to obtain the appropriate visa from the British embassy in Dublin.

Their child, being a dual Thai/British national would not need one.

I asume you are talking about the Republic; Northern Ireland is, of course, part of the UK so she would need a UK settlement visa to live there.
