I happen to stumble upon this after picking up a linux format book recently. Turns out this does very similar things to VMWARE its called VirtualBox OSE, I've used it so far in testing beta versions of windows 7, windows vista. you can pick it up in your add / remove programs or download it. hope this programs helps other people out like it did me

if i'm not mistaken, windows dumped their virtual PC software a while back and made it free, there's heaps of alternatives around for desktop virtualisation.
