Hi everyone,

I will be arriving in Bangkok in June to look for work as an English teacher and I am wondering is it enough to just get a 30 day entry stamp at the airport or would it be better to get a tourist visa to give myself a bit more time to look something. I do know that whichever way I go I will have to leave the country and then apply for a Non Imm B visa before I can start working.

If you only have a one way ticket or a return beyond 30 days the airline may well refuse you entry onto the flight if you do not have a Visa.

A Non Imm B Visa will not alow you to work. You will need a Work Permit.

So get yourself a Visa and save any problems with the airline and give you long enough to find work and sort out Visas and Work Permit.

You do not say where you are from but if you can get a Multi Entry Non O Visa before you come this would give you up to 15 months and you can work on it if you have a Work Permit.

I am thinking Australian. You may be able to get a Non O from the Thai Consulate in Perth.

Details on here. It is worth a try. http://www.thai-info.net/info/thaiembassyabroad.htm

Hi Lite Beer,

you're right I am from Australia. I just realised I should have given some more info. I will be coming to Thailand on a return ticket just to be on the safe side. I thought a Non Imm O was only for those who have a Thai spouse or are over 50. I am 43 and I don't have a Thai spouse but if I could get an O that would be great.

Usualy you are right. I know the Consulates in UK issue for visiting family and friends. Members have reported that Peth have been pretty friendly so it is always worth a try. Give them a ring , nothing to lose.
