Homepro & Sharp Practice?

I yesterday noticed that Home Pro still display their prices as bed prices when they in fact mean the mattress.

At Index you'll find "twin" beds at rather affordable prices until you discover that actually the price is for a single bed.

I haven't experienced any high pressure selling at Phet Kasem branch.

I go in there for a free coffee now, they can't do enough for me since the "bed" episode. :D

Get to know who the Customer Service manager/ess is, before buying anything.

Failing that, intro yourself to the store manager, they usually speak English.

You are in there to pay for a high ticket item, spell out what you expect from them. :)

If they don't agree, walk out. Don't deal with sheep, when there is a shepherd around.

Cannot agree. Whilst I cannot read or write Thai, nor speak it sufficiently well to hold such a details conversation in Thai, I do know people who can and I know Thais who can communicate very effectively in English with great accuracy.

To be honest, even on my own I began to differentiate which beds were packages and which were mattress only. When with someone Thai, it was easy and both straightforward and painless.

I know it may seem a con but that is because we don't understand how it is being sold. The problem comes that Somchai doesn't understand either.

For clarity, it might be better for some folks to buy divan sets which are the same pattern, top and bottom, as they are invariably sold as sets, being the top and bottom.

I spent 51k baht on a mattress and accessories 2 days ago, yesterday delivery, but after a night sleep my back hurts.

Wonder if I can change it for another cheaper one at homepro Pattaya. The mattress is a slumberland all latex and was 37k.

My wife sleeps fine on it though.

You had my whole office cracking up on that one....must find out what it means.....

I learned a new Thai word today: Khi Kwai.

I'll use it every time the HomePro manager pauses in his speech about no refunds. :o

I still go there but I will not give them the time of day. I look for what I want and if it is at a good price, I'll buy it. :)

That is what I do. They are really aggressive. It use to drive me crazy when they would follow you around the store. Now, I just ignore them and look for what I want. LIke everywhere else in the world, it pays to shop around and get educated on what you are buying...

We bought our beds from Index. From the Sealy rep who works there a few days a week. Even got a better deal than was published...and more stuff was included. Better prices than at HomeWorks who had the same sale going on (same listed prices, but additional discount at Index).

The guy told us the promotion was good until the end of March. That was 4 weeks ago. So, went in last week and guess what? There is still a promotion, but different prices! I almost lost it...luckily, he remembered us. Especially when I showed him HIS hand written prices in my notebook...along with an expiration date. He honored the prices with NO questions asked. Whew...

For small stuff, or something I need quickly, HomePro/Works is OK. Otherwise, it's off to Global House. Not always better prices, but a much better selection...and at times they have MUCH better prices...Thanks Rimmer for the intro to GH!!!!!!

Craig - apologies if I am wrong but I think you are based Pattaya way. Where is the nearest GH thanks?

Yes, I am in Pattaya. We are kinda in the middle of two of them. One in Rayong and one in Chonburi. Great stores to roam around in!

Thanks Craig - unfortunately a bit far for me to go for a casual looksie but worth knowing if I need something specific

I've more than enough problems with Homepro so much so that we don't go there anymore.

Favorite is to put a BIG special price tag on something then get charged the regular price at the check out. Once I even went back and got the 'special' price label off the display model to show the check out girl. Standard reply,

"Oh special offer finish already'

Not just HomePro. At Carrefour next door ( in Pattaya ), the checkout girls hated me, because I would only hand over one item at a time so I could check the price was the same as advertised. Usually something on "special" wasn't so in the computer, and I would refuse to budge till the girl on skates went to check it out. My GF was embarrased, but as I always made her take note of the "special" prices, she was able to back me up.

I could have just checked the bill afterwards, but so much more satisfying to make them sort out their erroneous pricing on the spot.

Especially in LOS "caveat emptor"

Trying to deal with some of the staff at Home Pro can be maddening but the same goes for Global House. Both tend to hire people off the street who do now have a clue as to whats going on. I love it when somebody tries to sell me items they have no experience with. People following you around and getting between you and what your looking at is also a comedy. I just start walking fast and try to loose em in the isles.

Home Pro was cool about replacing a exspensive fan for me last year. At first they wanted to send my fan to Bangkok for a month but after talking to the manager they decided to give me a new fan and there was no paperwork involved. The bottom line is if they have what you need and the price is OK, go for it. The problem with the bed was one the OP should have seen coming but it was a learning to buy in Thailand thing, could happen any Expat in LOS.

There is not much need to boycott them, they have few customers as it is. One thing I do like is the big empty cool space to browse around in but they tend to have less and less items I need or want. In fact I have had several conversations with friends wondering how they are still in business as the place is empty most of the time.

I once wanted an electric grill from Home Pro. I found one that I liked the price of, but couldn't see how to take the drip tray out to clean it. Turned out that none of the many staff had a clue either. Before my eyes, I watched 3 of them destroy a brand new grill trying to take it apart. Bet they put it back on the shelf after I left too!

I also hate the way when I say something like "I want a 3.5 kw shower heater" they keep trying to sell me a 5kw shower heater. TIT.
