i'm having days off from school from tomorrow for a week as there is the BIG day fair @ my university. Though it's my first year here but it sounds interesting. there are not only cheap plants and cheap stuffs they are selling but they are also showing some strange animals which we won't see ones in Thailand.

FYI and off-topic, I have ordered seeds from the US (many varieties, many times) and they are very hard to germinate. The tiny seedlings are very vulnerable to the many kinds of exotic Bangkok fungi. It's strawberry season in CM now, so if you have any hope, I think cool season would be the time to try.

it starts at 10am till 10pm biggrin.gif

will go there tomorrow...... thinking of growing a banana tree!!! w00t.gif

cool and thanks. The banana sounds like a good idea... I had a papaya tree, the Thais in my building thought I was nuts to grow one and said I could never manage to kill it... I did :D

I bought grapes there once and they stayed alive for over a year, never got any grapes though. Maybe I'll try that again too.

ahh, plants :o

Hmmmm, strawberry as well sensitive for fungie, dam_n.

Tried tomatoes but never got the big european size to work in Thailand, the smaller Thai ones easy to grow on balcony.

After three to four months have good harevesting really hundreds from a few plants, but indeed after a while you get this white fungi and the plants die.

Very easy is capsicum, no problem at all to grow but take a bit long before they are big enough to eat.

I have tried mixing different type of soil, almost anything you can find on info about soil, but I guess farmers are really clever and know what they do.

But growing food is just fun to try and do and it always seems to taste better but that is in the mind only I think.

Spinach, extremely easy to grow and it just keeps on growing, I have spinach plants in the garden in Kalasin and they are huge.

Just plant them by the 5 a few weeks in between and after a while you have enough spinach to feed a family of 4-5 at least once a week.

It is really fun as the place my GF has a house and land there is food to be found for free almost everywhere as the locals often plant some stuff here and there and everyone is allowed to take a few pieces of fruit for consumption. Basilicum also easy to grow and very tasty Pesto can be made of it.

It is just so much fun the first time I made Pesto, a lot of the villagers came to look and see what I was doing (Crazy farang) so I made a Pasta Pesto Chicken dish and they liked it (After they crunched a few chillies in). Great fun, specially the chicken part as it still had to be killed and prepared, ha ha.

Another guy completed the dish as he had made something with ants or flying ants in it, tasty stuff. Another time I was scared the sh1t out of me when I lifted a piece of rock and this big scorpio came out, it was fried later that day. Same if someone finds a snake, hop chop the head off and cook it.

Food is everywhere is what I have learned there, you just have to look for it.

are you tryna grow strawberry in bangkok????????!!!!!

isnt it supposed to be in the COOL-COLD weather?

or u turn the air-con on 24hrs?

Posted

No Lah, I will put it in the fridge, just like some peeps put their remote, ha haa ha ah aha ha a aa a :D

I think strawwie can be done inside when temp is around 22-23, when you see the fruit start growing it just need a cold shock so switch aircon and

put temp on 18 or so for an hour or two. After they should do fine is what some farmer guy told me.

That why I want to try.

Anyway if you ever see seeds or know where to find let me know so once I have big strawberry I will put them on chocolate pie, put cream on top and smash it in yer face, ha ha ha .

:o:D:D
