No you do not have to have such a document but apparently your bride to be does. I thinks she wants something to prove that you are not already married and I can understand that.

I don't know what it will take to give her that proof.

You could download the affirmation to marry and fill it out to show her. If that is not enough then get it made official at the embassy. Link for download: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/marriageaffidavit.pdf

I don't think just getting the affirmation to marry would affect your K1 application as long as you don't go to the amphoe together to register the marriage. She can't do it alone.
