Good to hear. Also glad we are to have Jenson on the grid for 2009. I think Brawn is just the man to make Honda the team it promised to be a few years ago. I worry for Toyota though at the moment. With them announcing the first loss in their history and a cutting down on production around the world doesn't bode well for their continuing future in F1. Another link to the Honda story here

If you owned an F1 team, would you name it after yourself?

Of course many have, just can't help thinking it's a little egotistical for my taste.

dam_n right I would :o What else is he supposed to call it ?

Vijay Mallya didn't seem to think it was necessary to name the team after him, but instead took the oppurtunity to promote his homeland.

My bad, for some reason I always thought he was German. :D In that case Reading F1 after his home town. Brawn GP makes him sound like a doctor :o .

Funnily enough i always thought he was German. Probably the name and his close association with Mr Schumacher. I think in fact he hails from Manchester.

Of course many have, just can't help thinking it's a little egotistical for my taste.

Let's see:

Ferrari, MacLaren, Williams, Sauber, Brabham, Cooper, Jordan, Toleman, Benetton, Aguri, Minardi, Prost, Ligier ... all teams named after the owner, founder.

Then of course, there is Lotus, Torro Rosso (which actually is Italian for "Red Bull"), Force India, and then big manufacturers like Toyota, Honda, BMW etc.

As far as I can see, the owner's/founder's name is the rule. A coined name the exception.

Now about Ross Brawn: I admire the guy and wish him good luck. I hope he did not put his own money into this business. The difficult part for him will be to find sponsors. Honda had no sponsors and I don't believe they retired because of the financial burden. They could have looked for sponsors. But the loss of face for their lack of success is more than likely the reason for their bailing out.

Yes on the whole you are right. A lot of teams are indeed named after the founder.

You did actually miss out some teams however. What about Arrows, Footwork, BAR, March, Shadow, Midland and Spyker?
