I have been asked to courier my pp (UK) out of Thailand temporarily for a foreign country visa requirement? Is this legal? I am thinking better to hand carry myself, but courier would save some money, albeit with added risk of loss of pp.

Is courier illegal, I think I need my pp in Thailand at all times? Any authoritative reference on internet I can point to for informing my client that its illegal or not?

It's not illegal to courier the passport if you were in your home country becuase you don't need it there but a requirement here is that you need to be in posession of your passport whilst in Thailand so unless you have a spare one it is risky. Most of us in the same boat have 2 passports and I UPS mine out of the country often but I still don't like doing it really.

I was told long ago that if you live in Thailand and your passport goes somewhere, you must go with it.

Yep I also have two passports and often have to send one overseas for work visas etc... But I always keep the passport that I entered Thailand here with me.. I usually use DHL and you will have to declare it is a passport you are sending .. and because of that it usually gets held up in BKK while it is checked by the authorities.. Never been a problem for me as no Thai entry/exit stamps in the passport I send and there is always a cover letter explaining why/where the passport is being sent..

I was told the same thing as Gary A. And although in 20 yrs I have never had to present my passport for anything here beyond the usual licence renewal etc.. I wouldn't want to risk fate and not have it with me..

If at all posible much better to carry it yourself..

Some countries allow their Nationals or Citizens to have two passports if they have good reasons for needing two, such as frequent travel on business.

In most cases a second passport application will need to be completed and supported with a letter from the applicants employer confirming that they travel regularly on their behalf.

Please note that in some countries the second passport will be issued with a limited validity period. Not all countries allow second passports, so check with your local passport office for details.

You should check with the consular section of your embassy to find out if mailing your passport to another country is permitted for the purposed of applying for a visa.

You usually apply for a visa from an embassy or consulate in the country in which you are physically present at the time of application.

You are responsible for your passport and it is the property of your government.

Of course dual citizens can legally hold two passports.
