Wonder if it'd be easier to travel via Aran-Poipet then get a solo taxi on down to Battambang?

I think that's still the quickest way. The road from Pailin to Battambang is finally being improved but I don't think it's done yet. Poipet-Battambang is an easy two hours on good roads.

agree with above-if you really insist on the pailin border-that eats time and wont be any faster. But again:IF;go to BUSterminal-find the next bus out to Chantaburi-(maybe it goes on to Trat-ask window), and at Chan-busst find the minibus=van to said border [hourly or so)-and cross over. talesofasia.com has the full info re all border crossings

for the ARAN border; there are 2 DIRECT buses to BORDER=Rong Ngarn Kleua, also obviously from BUSterminal @ about 8.00 and 10.00 or 10.30-takes 4 hrs and delivers you direct. I know Poipet is not the nicest of crossings-but hold your breath and go through-then the road has been much improved and taxi's or even buses a plnety. agai talesofaisa has full details
