Can any one recommend a clinic in Bangkok? Thanks Ramkamhaeng Hospital has excellent opthalmology department. I was treated by Dr Sunan Chaidhawangul, this lady is extremely professional and speaks English and at extremely reasonable cost.
mark5335 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 You can do this at Samitivej Hospital in Sukhumvit Soi 49. Very good eye doctors, plus they also fit glasses...they have a good range of branded specs.
PeaceBlondie Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Each is a different specialty. Basically, ophthalmologists are eye surgeons, medical doctors. Opticians are test-givers and maybe lens grinders. I suggest you see an eye surgeon and then take the prescription to a lens grinder.
lopburi3 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 If you do have eye problems see an ophthalmologist first. Any of the large hospital have on staff and Rutnin recommended by Sheryl is the premier group of specialists for eye care (and they have the most advanced equipment). Rutnin is a very busy place (on second floor) but very efficient and computerized.
lanny Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I use Yan Hee Hospital for my eye doctor needs. I see Dr Patamanuch there; she has operated on both of my eyes and does regular check ups for me. The service, etc. has been excellent -- and cheaper than hospitals on this side of the river.
Heng Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Second/third for Rutnin. Go on a weekday to avoid the crowds a bit.

elektrified Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Rutnin Eye Hospital also a good choice This place is great! People from all over the world go there to be treated. They took very good care of me. There are about 30 eye specialists there as I recall and every thing is state of the art. I got my eyes checked, saw the doctor, etc. for under 200 Baht. I got my glasses elsewhere as their prices for the frames were crazy. Make an appointment 1-2 days in advance.
farangene Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Rutnin. That is where the Royals go for eye problems (ie Queen visited them 2 years ago for eye surgery). Prices are not too bad IME (never bought glasses though). Your eyes are too valuable to get anything except first class treatment.

Because I'm pretty sure the base fee is 900 baht, foreigner or thai. That could be because of who my doctor is....He's the Q. eye doctor too. It can be more than this depending on if you have your eyes dilated..... which I don't recommend unless absolutely necessary, because they don't use the the drops that your eyes are back to normal in 15 min. My eyes were very sensitive to light all day into the evening. I wasn't aware of the type of drops they use when I had it done, because for over 15 years in the states they have been using the other kind. Beachbunny
lopburi3 Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I don't know there regular exam price but my annual computerized visual field test runs about 600 baht at Rutnin; which I don't feel is excessive.

Beachbunny My last appointment there was in November 2007. I was shocked when I was handed a bill for 187 Baht! The doctor told me at the time, that the Queen had just been there recently.
