stgrhe
That stamped concrete looks great! I'm in Hua Hin and in the process of building a second house and was considering the stamped concrete for around the pool patio area and also the drive way. Are you happy with the results and price? Yes I am very happy with the work but should perhaps have chosen a different colour as dirt from unfinished plots makes it look dirty. Price, yes I am very happy with that since it was free for us. In a sweet moment during the negotiating the developer offered to provide it free of charge. need I say they were not very skilled negotiators while I am an ex pro. wpcoe
stgrhe: Very nice looking house, indeed. You should be proud. I'm curious, though, if the some of the roof detail is merely ornamental (I like the look), or if there was a functional reason for it. I attached a cropped pic of what I'm referring to. A kind-of double-eaves/pagoda look:
wpcoe
CDNinKS: Regarding the stamped concrete, you may already know this, but thought I'd point it out just in case. When I had a stamped concrete poured in the USA (patio in one place, patio and sidewalks in another) they mixed the color into the concrete before pouring so that the color was throughout the slab. When I watched Thai laborers pour stamped concrete front stoops (not sure what to call them) for some townhouses near my condo in Jomtien, they only floated the color power on top of the concrete before stamping it, so the color is only a centimeter or so deep. The former method requires much more powder, but in case the concrete later chips or cracks, at least the color is still maintained. The latter method ensures that if the concrete chips/cracks you'll see telltale grey concrete showing. I would recommend to make sure when you get the estimates that they include mixing the color throughout the concrete.

stgrhe
Some more pictures: Our pool, which is a MagnaPool, with the guest house at the rear. The pool is an infinity type. A close-up of the guest house. Right side garden with steps to the right leading up to the terrace. The small garden area behind the pool. The pool at night (sorry, but I do not have a very good camera as I am a poor photographer).
CDNinKS
Beautiful house and garden/pool for sure. I see that the pool is an overflow style on the one side so am wondering what the purpose is of the white stones around the other edges? Is that a drain area? The terrace has a small slope from the house to allow rain water, and water when washing the terrace, to run off and the drain prevents the water to enter into the pool. villagefarang
You sure treat your guests with an extremely nice place to stay!!! I agree. Now what we need to know, is how far in advance do we need to book this lovely room, and other than your beautiful home, what are the local attractions? Now what we need to know, is how far in advance do we need to book this lovely room, and other than your beautiful home, what are the local attractions? It all depends on the brand, the vintage and quantity of champagne and wine you are bringing along. Just to give you a clue of what gives first priority: Krug Vintage Champagne Clos D'Ambonnay 1995 would be nice; or Chateau Pétrus 1982 or 1985 would be even better. CDNinKS
Thanks for the info on the drain system, that is my plan as well to have a level surface to the pool, but was wondering how to handle the patio water. I had to Google the Champagne.....if anyone wants to know what a night at his beautiful guest house would go for here is the link http://www.thechampagnecompany.com/champagne/krug-vintage-champagne-clos-d-39-ambonnay-1995-gift-boxed-/prod_114.html
aridion
Quite a hefty champagne. Lovely place by the way. Is it an open plan inside?
nocturn
Myself and my Wife have had this place for some time now. It needed a lot of work so the options were to either renovate and restore or knock it down and build new. We decided on the former as I very much like traditional wooden shophouses and thats the reason it was purchased in the first place! Structually it was sound so all the wood was replaced, new roof, windows, electrics, plumbing, bathrooms etc. The first thing that was done was to increase the height of the roof by 80cm. This transformed upstairs and made the rooms a lot more usable and airy. We also incorporated a balcony on the first floor to look out over the bay. It has two large bedrooms, living and kitchen area downstairs as well as a bathroom. In addition we built a self contained maids quarters at the back which can also be used as storage. It is located in the beautiful village of Chaloklum in Koh Phangan. It is now rented out and is a restaurant and jazz bar. Hope you like. Great topic and some beautiful houses shown. love what you did with the place, i wish more of the wooden shop houses in chaloklum were restored so lovingly. I have a house in Chaloklum as well at Hin Ngam. I posted pics somewhere in this thread, perhaps under another name.....
stgrhe
Quite a hefty champagne. Lovely place by the way. Is it an open plan inside? The entrance (hall), dining area and the lounge is an open L-shaped area with large sliding glass doors to the kitchen. I do not have a good photo of the house layout apart from this one: and this is the kitchen layout:

Nawtier
Villagefarang I resized a few photos hope all is good ... the house is made from a lot of wood but I wanted to build something with a bit of thai style rather than the concrete style that has become very popular lately. Don't worry I have planted a lot of tree's to compensate .

nice house....but 3 mil ?? seems awfully cheap especially for a wood house... My neighbor has the same style house and it just went from 6 to 8.5mil this year and the ones built a year ago already look older than yours. Or did you mean Twin house? that'd be why we cant see the left?
