Oker Edge Modem Setup

Featured Replies

A friend dumped her broken laptop on me which I fixed.

She used to connect over edge with a USB Oker Edge Modem.

It seems a great little gadget, self loading a utility, but I have no manual or connection settings. (Laptop was DOA and unable to yield current settings and she is a technical midget, and has no clue. At all.)

I think I need a password or something, which seems strange as I don't for a telephone edge connection, it is always available.

Any one else have one, how do they work? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Ummh, just put in any old username/password if it's for the EDGE connection. Under Linux the EDGE connection programme insists on a username/password also even though the cell company will pull that off the SIM card.....

I just loaded one on my Mrs' laptop and it worked first time (just lucky I guess).

When you connect it does it try and register with the SIM provider?

Do you get a particular error message?

Many Edge modems come with built in software and passwords / logins for various GSM providers like mobile phones but my own experience is they cover regional parts of the globe only like Asia/Australia and maybe not inc Europe?.... if you need the login details get it from whoever SIM provider you use....the settings are the same for everyone once your have registered a GPRS data account.

Dizzy Girl just informed me that her SIM has no credit.

Thanks

Put my sim in and off it went, no passcodes or anything.

I think I might get one....
