Im writing this after getting to bed at 6 am and getting up at 9.30am to get the plane Now back in Phukers

After arriving in U Tapao - Pattaya on a poor excuse for a aeroplane, my mate "Conan" and I were told that a taxi was 850 baht into the city. ( I hear all the time about the Phuket Mafia (taxi drvers) charging 500 baht and "ripping the tourists off" at the airport - well it is about the same distance from U Tapao airport to the Pattaya city, as it is in Phuket from the airport to Patong - so why 350 baht dearer? and why only up to 3 people? - I caught the bus on principle for 150 baht and tipped the driver 100).

We arrived in Pattaya and got off on the Second Rd and searched for a Hotel as I had been told countless times all the Hotels were full Every hotel had rooms and the one we stayed at, "Golden Beach Hotel" was 1/4 full, so "Pattaya being full" is a myth. The Golden Beach Hotel was exceptional value (1200 baht per night) and the servcie was brilliant - I highly reccomend it.

My thoughts of Pattaya were - dirty, angry, bad roads, worse drivers than Phuket and great food on the beach Rd being non existent. The nightlife was good, but nearly the same as anywhere in the Thailand bar scene, except for a Russian Go Go Bar and The Blues Factory which was brilliant. I dont promote The Blues Factory because of Dave being the owner, it just really is one of the best live gigs anywhere in the country.

Well, the first night was a doozy!, very long night with Dave, Jay, Penz (the obortor ), Kurgen (he looks like his avatar , myself and Conan - and a few "friends" .

I really enjoyed what I remember and all of the guys were great. The expats are the same as here, great blokes having fun and living a party life.

Last night was also great, a little more subdued (drinking wise) and we spent all night in The Blues Factory - Brilliant! Dave and his wife are fantastic people and good people - it really was a pleasure!

33,000 was the end result.

Pattaya was worth the visit!

Who told you there was great food on Beach Rd

On your next visit we'll go to the nicer places for food

(And the nastier night time places)

Torny- happy you had a good time!! Pattaya is a great place. One a few places in Thailand that has everything one could need.

Dave- hmmm have to take him to New Orleans restaurant! Great Grub!!!!

I just imagined there would be nicer restaurants along the beach Rd - wouldnt that be a good place to put them? Anyway, El Toros was great.

Another thing I noticed up there was, lots of middle aged farang couples. Does Pattaya have many residents like this ?

BTW, It was weird seeing white farang (Russian) girls with their clothes off dancing and pole sliding. (In Phuket it is illegal for a Thai girl to dance naked, let alone topless these days), and it was even a weirder feeling when I got the bill = 260 Baht for 1 Tiger and 1 bottle of water.

Torny- so what was your review of the Russian Go Go? (Apart from pricey/nud_e!)

Beach Rd- well I think the big plan is a re-development. I dare say it would work well for restaurants if its done right. Course as it is now- its the last place you want to be.

It was a good night from what I remember. Was that really Tina Turner? Anyone know what time we left the last bar? I apparently didn't get back to my hotel until 04:00.

BTW, Betty, that whale from P&W was beached in my hotel. Not only that, there was a bloody school of them!

Dont waste your money or time.

I have minimal carpet burns on my knees and elbows. However, I believe I must have spent whatever was left of the night (morning) banging my head against the headboard.
