Paramotoring In Thailand

Featured Replies

I started a course in paramotoring in Pattaya recently with George at Eastern Flying Club. It's a real blast of a way to fly!

Anyone having fun with paramotors in the Land of Smiles?

Coming back from Ko Chang last month we saw a few of you guys up along the highway! Up here in Chiang Mai, I don't know of any expats, but I do know a Thai real estate developer that flies one fairly regularly. How much is the course? Sounds like fun.....

Around 30k gets you safely soloing about. It's really fun and a great diversion while my fixed wing gets its annual. Kiting the wing on the ground is very challenging and I feel like I'm in a boot camp!

About how many hours of time do you get for the 30K? Not a bad price it seems.

I got certified in foot launch paragliding in Central Washington back in the states. Was a lot of fun, and I can imagine wrestling the larger wing is challenge. One fellow in the beginning class I had was a logger about 70 and had a bad leg. Watching him limp-run his way down the mountain while we all held our breath was the highlight of the class. I only had one bad episode myself accidentally landing downwind after a dramatic wind direction change. Amazing how fast the landing site can go by! Keep your eyes on the wind sock....

It's probably about 30 hours of training in all. When you are certified and can fly solo they rent out the paramotors with wings for 1,000 baht/hour. It's about $5,000 for a new paramotor and about $2,500 for a new wing which in most cases can be used for paramotoring or paragliding.
