Go with Honda, at least a Honda motor, but preferably a full Honda motor and frame. The reason is dependability and availability of parts and mechanics who know these machines. At Sriyont CM they have a good selection, on CM Lamphun Rd, south of Kaew Nawarat Rd (Wat Kate area, road on the east side of the Ping River), row of blue trailers out front and tractors. I don't have any business connection there, but I am a very happy customer and over the past few years have bought several pieces of equipment. They have excellent mechanics. Ask for Khun Surasak, the owners son, fluent English and knows the equipment to help you make choices.

I have a small lawn so I bought the least expensive 19" Honda mower at 12,000 baht, but there is no grass catcher, I rake up the clippings, no big deal for me. If I were you, with 1000 sq m lawn, I would spring for the top of the line 21" with catcher. But they are over 20,000, I don't remember, but maybe 26,000 for the model with powered wheels.

You never answered my PM; I was hoping that you would give me your honest feedback on the company that I recommended to install your lawn. don

I bought a 4 stroke Honda a couple of years ago for around that price and it’s still going strong.

The shop also had a Briggs and Stratton slightly cheaper although the one they tried to sell me obviously had engine problems. That didn’t deter them from trying to sell it to me though.

If you buy one make sure the shop tests it before you leave the shop.

Hi David,

I have a 1000 Sq Metre lawn and use the Honda machine with a GXV160 engine and 18 inch blades.

It has a grass catcher and it cost ฿12,600, 6 months ago.

Starts everytime no problem.

Only problem I have had is the back wheel falling off (next time I,ll check all the bolts first!!!)

Cutting the grass quite high at the moment so don,t use the grass catcher and allow the grass cuttings to be used as a mulch.

One of the best things I,ve bought in thailand.

Hi,

I also am looking for a mower in Bangkok. Purchased a hand reel mower for 3000.oo in sukhumvit 71 but that was temporary. The only good motorised reel mower they had was a Honda at around 70,000.00 baht. If anybody can point me to a reliable reel mower for up to 20,000 I will be very gratefull.

Thanks

I'll tell you what not to buy......

in CM also and at the big hardware shop on the Mae Rim and super hi-way junction [Montri, I think it's called] I bought a [high end] honda motor on a crap body, called 'Euro Design' that is so cheap and poorely designed. Honda motor is 4 hp and has to work at full throttle to cut the weakest of grasses. body of mower is totally crap in that all the wheels fall off all the time throttle cable just fell off, rust after 2 yrs. handle is always falling off and always loosing nuts and bolts....but the Honda motor keeps on ticking.

Cost was 2X what you would pay in the US for a decent mower....

There is a guy in Chiang Rai who sells and services Husqvarna lawn mower, tractors and weed wackers named Ian. His phone number is 087-575-2528. I bought a riding mower from him for my 7 rai and it cut my lawn mowing time down from 12 hrs to 2.5 hrs. Have been using the tractor for about a year now and no problems at all.
