If for example I'd go the child in school support route:

1. Would the 500K in bank have to be seasoned for a certain period of time? Is a fixed deposit account acceptable?

2. Apart from birth certificate of child what else would be needed? Like certificate from school? What would said certificate have to state?

3. Does the child have to come to Imm when applying for extension?

4. Is an extension under this rule issued on the spot or is there a 'under consideration' period?

Next option:

retirement: just under 800K in bank but have WP and bank+income total is well above requirement, but income is domestic (own Co). Have all relevant tax evidence. (I'm over 50)

Even if Imm extends my permit to stay based on retirement, would I run into problems with labour next year (April) when the renewal of my WP is due, because at that time I would be on a retirement extension?

Just asking for all the options available as a back-up if Imm finds a fault with my usual 'Thai wife' extension.

1. The schooling is for a foreign child (required to be here on a non immigrant visa) and first year would only require funds in bank 30 days (3 months later years).

2. Proof living with you. No mention in rules of school paperwork required.

3. I would expect so but no personal knowledge.

4. Expect it will be under consideration just as wife is.

You won't be able to keep your work permit if you go for the retirement option.

Unless the child is staying here on a permit to stay from a non immigrant visa you would not qualify to get this extension.

2.11 In the case of a family member of an alien who has been permitted to stay temporarily in Thailand for study in an educational institution as set out in clauses 2.8 or 2.9 (applicable only to parents, spouse, children, adopted child or the child of his/her spouse): Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 1 year at a time.

You should have no problem with getting your marriage extension once you satisfy the time period for the money to be in the bank. If my memory is correct you should almost be at that point now.

I can't think of any reason for them to deny your marriage extension.

You are correct, I should not have any problems but I always like to have a back-up just in case.

Money seasoning in new account was done by mid-May. Will file my application mid-June (due on 06.July '09)

The reason why I asked for the kid in school route is because last year (late April, our son came along) the Imm officer asked me why I don't go the child support route rather than the 'Thai wife route'. At that time there was no financial requirement, but the Imm officer pointed out that the child has to be Thai, which of course he is.

But I stuck to the Thai wife extension for fear that I may lose the grandfathering of the 400K bank deposit rule (which of course has now been re-instated) if I do so.

As I said, I just like to have back-ups.

Thanks for all your replies.
