I'd like to do a comparison on what GUYS and GALS expect on V day, the guys are steaming ahead in the 'I don't expect anything' catagory but only 3 votes from the GALS so far, so come girls get your vote in! :o

Maybe this is harsh... don't know. Just MY feeling.

But. This day means absolutely nothing to me... just another day. I refuse to be a pawn of commercial greediness gouging ( or just taking advantage of ) people over the heartfelt feelings of love and friendship. I treat and show my friends and family love and friendship the majority of the year (I'm not perfect) and they appreciate it.

Truthfully, no offense to those folks who find enjoyment and fullfillment from this holiday. No jab on you... Just commenting on my vote.

Happy "V Day" :o

Ok Shola, my vote is in. I do not expect anything as I am currently single. Even if I wasn't I wouldn't expect anything. If flowers showed up at my work it would be a total bonus. Unfortunately, my ex only used to send flowers when we were fighting and as far as I am concerned sucking up flowers just don't count lol!! However last summer when I was seeing someone he sent flowers to me at work on a Friday afternoon. I can tell you he had the best weekend of his life!!

Happy Valentines to all!!!

Well, I had to vote that I don't expect anything because normally I will take the GF out for dinner on Valentine's Day but we don't exchange gifts. However, this year she'll be overseas so I received a box of heart-shaped chocolates and a card from her before she left!

Sure, VD has been over-commercialized, but it's still a good excuse to have fun and do something different.

Thais, of course, take a much broader view of VD and send Valentine's cards to various friends and relatives. I always get a VD card from my staff, not to mention a birthday card and present.

generally speaking, do Thai women usually expect a gift on Valentine's Day? Is VD something that Thais pay any attention to? Or is it some commercial nonsense that falangs have foisted on Thailand like Xmas?

Last year, I was back temporarily in the UK. Got an e-greeting card from the g/f. Fortunately, with time difference, I could reply.

Tomorrow, I'll get up early and buy some flowers and a card.

I don't expect anything, but it'll make her feel happy.

I wasn't expecting anything until.........

Last night shortly after midnight...... the baby was back in her crip asleep and my wife turned to me and said....... "darling do you know what day it is today?"...... valentines day...... and then she said "back in minute"..... I hear her open the front door and I'm wondering what the hec is she doing...... then she is back in our room standing beside the bed with a beaming smile..... she lets her nighty drop to the floor and she holds an apricot rose bud that she had just picked to her chest and says......

Happy Valentines my sweet husband this is for you

So a very nice start to the day and an encore at 8.00am

I'll head off to the market this afternoon to get some roses and then we'll go out this evening to the bbq restaurant at the main round about at Loei..... they do great steaks there.

I don't deserve her do I??? what a silly bugger I was last week... re - my story "boys night out'

Subtle as a sledgehammer.

My missus says to me at about 3pm this afternoon (14th). "Why don'y you give your mum a phone call this afternoon"

ME: "Huh, why?"

Missus: "To wish her a happy valentines day."

ME: "Oh h3ll, I forgot all about it. Sorry darling."

If you love someone you should let them know everyday and I resent being told by merchendisers how and when I should express that love...load "o" <deleted>

So! Valentines day's nearly here, what do you expect from that someone special??

You forgot one in the poll.

Your wife asks you want you want and you tell her to save her money. I did. She would have only brought me flowers. Instead I got up at 6am,drove to the market, purchased a huge boquet, returned home and woke her up with a kiss. She said UURRGHHHHHHHHH. I said aaaaaggghhhhhhhh and we both lived happily ever after :o:D:D:D

Valentines Day....what a load of <deleted>.

I too, resent being told when to buy my wife something. :o

oh! come on.... it's fun.... the girls just love it..... doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg to buy a little something.

At loei market this evening the flower sellers were doing a roaring trade... great fun watching them make up the bunches and all the happy people buying flowers.

The restaurants were all full..... (99.9% Thai's) romancing their loved ones.

The commercialism..... ok with me as back in NZ I had a cut flower business and valentines day is the biggest day of the year for flower growers........ I would plan ahead 8 months in advance for all the different varieties of flowers and how many glasshouses etc.... sunflowers were my main crop.... hybrid types.... I would dye them red, very popular.....

Now in TL I just can not believe how cheap flowers are to buy..... I recomend people to visit the all night flower market in Bangkok..... 50 long stem roses for 40 to 80 baht...... gee at that price you could get a car load :D
