Can A Uk Citizen Obtain A Visa Prior To Travel Even Though They Qualify For The Exemption Scheme?

Many apologies if this has been posted before, but I wasn't able to see any topic that covers this

I am a UK citizen (aged 21) and am planning to go to Thailand over the summer. Now we will see if I have my facts right! As I see it a UK citizen does not need a visa prior to entry, as they are exempt, and can stay for 30 days if through an airport, but if (like me) they are crossing a land border, they are only allowed in for 15 days. My plan was to spend about 21 days in Thailand, so obviously the 15 exemption is not enough, and I do not really fancy doing a visa run. So can I, as a UK citizen, apply for a Tourist Visa through the normal channels prior to travel, even though the UK is part of the exemption scheme? Also, if entering Thailand with a regular tourist visa obtained before travel, would I still need proof of onward travel?

Many thanks

Ryan

No onward ticket needed if you are a holder of a valid visa.

It is required if entering on the 30 (or 15) day visa exempt entry.
