Newcastle's pre-season took a turn for the worse after a full strength team were hammered 6-1 at League One Leyton Orient on Saturday. The defeat follows Newcastle's 1-0 win at Huddersfield Town which ended in a 20-man brawl including players and coaches.

Beleaguered caretaker manager Chris Hughton said after the match: "We didn’t win and we didn’t perform. There are ups and downs in football and this was very much a down."

He added: "This is a loss in a pre-season programme that has gone well so far. It's what we expect in a pre-season period. Come August 8th, this group of lads will be all right. I'm happy with these players."

Bloody hel_l, Chris ... what are you expecting from the first league game of the season ... a 10-1 defeat at WBA??? :)
