In the past I've always bought a multiple re-entry. Last year I didn't use it at all, so I think I should be economical and just buy two.

If that's possible, do I fill out two copies of the TM8? For the second one, do I need to put something in the details section, or can I leave it blank?

I go to the immigration office and pay 1000 baht each time I leave for the re-entry permit. My retirement visa becomes extended by the time I am out of the country, ie if I am out for 10 days my next visit to immigration is moved on 10 days, I dont think I would be allowed to buy 2 at 1 visit.

WARNING:

This is absolutely incorrect!

Wait for the experts to give more details.

I doubt that one can obtain two single re-entry permits at the same time.

I havn't heard of anyone doing this but I cannot see any reason why you cannot get 2 single re entry permits.

Only my guess.

As said above . It does not extend your stay it only keeps it alive.

You can only get one re-entry permit at a time. I ran into this problem a few months ago as I was only in thailand 1 day between trips. I tried to get both permits before the first trip and they would only allow one.

Thanks, Joey. I believe you, because the single re-entry permit is a partially-filled-in stamp in your passport and it would be odd and confusing to have two of them.

I can choose to pay 3900 baht for the multiple, or I can buy a single, take my September trip, then go back to Immigration and buy another single to keep for the future.

I would like some info on Re rentry permits. I see on the application form you have to state date leaving Thailand and returning does this have to precise, I am not sure of exact date of return?

It says that re entry is for short period out of the country , is up to 2 months too long?

And what exactly is a re entry permit, is it a ink stamp or visa like paper in the passport? I am looking to leave early October and return late November , first time applying for these permits.

It doesn't really matter what dates you put on the form. It will be valid until your current stay ends.

It is a half page stamp. It looks like this.

- As far as I know, it doesn't matter what trip detail you put on the form. I don't know they bother to ask.

- There is no limit on how long you are gone except the "Permitted To Stay Until.." date.

- It is a red ink stamp.

Ok thanks, and the Multi re-Entry stamp is just one stamp valid for as many re entries you want within that 'Must leave by date"?

It will look the same as the one pictured above. Come and go as often as you want as long as it is still valid.

Yup. It's just a bulk discount. At 3800 baht versus 1000, you are betting that you will need to re-enter at least 4 times.

Now that these permits are no longer available upon departure at the airport, it makes total sense to purchase one at the same time that you get your annual extension (or shortly after arrival if you come in on an O-A). It's good for exactly the same period as your extension. Buying a single vs. a multiple is a matter of economy vs. convenience.

For me, as a long-stay retiree, I'm happy to pay US$167 for the renewal and the multi and be done with it for the year.

Actually not total sense for all of us. I have not traveled for 5 years and do not expect to do so. I also live in Bangkok so most days can obtain one if it were required. But agree for most people it is a good insurance policy.

Not understand your terminology , I had a Non imm B (You have a Non Imm ) 0 ?. that was cancelled for work permit and lasts 1 year now , I was told I have to get a re entry permit if i wish to travel. I dont have "annual extension"

You in fact do have an a one year extension of stay that has to be renewed annually if you do not have to leave the country every 90 days and are working here. The re-entry permit will keep your current permitted to stay stamp alive.

Ok so my stamp on arrival 90 days ( June 2009) with my Non Im B which says must exit by september 7 2009 is no longer a requirement because I have a 1 year permit until next July 2010.

I was going to start a new thread but maybe this can be answered here.

I am on an extension of stay (work permit) and used a single entry re-entry permit for a holiday in the UK in April. When I re-entered in Bangkok, the immigration officer stamped me in until January 2010 (when my extension ends) but did not "cancel" my re-entry permit. In the past, the re-entry permit has been clearly stamped "USED".

Was this an oversight and, as the re-entry permit is exactly as it was originally stamped, can I use it again?

That permit (extension of stay) is the reason you need a re-entry permit. If you do not obtain the re-entry permit prior to leaving you will lose the extension of stay until July 2010 and be stamped in for 30 days visa exempt on your next entry (if allowed visa exempt entry).

It was an oversight (or they don't bother anymore). That number is in the computer as your entry visa number so trying to use again probably would not work.

Now that the Re entry visa is no longer available at BKK I just keep one alive in my passport to be used when or if ever. If used just buy another when next close my Imm office. May finish costing me 1000 Baht but better than being caught short if a quick non scheduled trip is required.
