Father killed in bid to save couple wired for death

PHUKET: -- A Phuket man was killed while trying to revive his son and his son’s girlfriend who were electrocuted in what police say may have been a bizarre 'murder-suicide'.

Police in Phuket Town said Jitti Choowong arrived home last Friday night to find his son Ekalak and his girlfriend dead on the floor of the home they shared in Rassada.

Mr Jitti tried to revive the couple, but they were still connected to an electric cable which was plugged into a wall socket, and he too was electrocuted.

Paramedics tried to revive the 67-year-old Jitti using a defibrillator, but were unable to save him.

Investigators are now trying to work out whether electrician Ekalak Choowong, 26, and his girlfriend, Sunaree Kaewjaipaa, 20, died as a result of a suicide pact, or a bizarre murder-suicide in which Ekalak murdered Sunaree and then killed himself.

Inspector Krurkrit Rit-nueang of Phuket City Police said a suicide note, signed by Mr Ekalak, was found beside the dead bodies.

“In the letter he said Sunaree didn’t care about his feelings and didn’t take care of him properly,” Inspector Krurkrit said.

Ekalak’s mother, Saykaew Choowong, who also lived in the house, said her son and his girlfriend had been arguing the night before they died.

She said she and Mr Jitti went out around midday on Friday and returned about 10pm to find their front door locked.

She said her husband called out to their son but there was no reply, so he went around to the back of the house and climbed in over a back gate.

Mrs Saykaew said her husband screamed out a few minutes later. When she went in to investigate, she found him on the floor near the back door, writhing in pain.

The dead bodies of her son Ekalak and Sunaree were also on the floor, tied together with the bare wire that carried Thailand's standard 220V of electricity, she said.

Mrs Saykaew said she pulled the plug out of the socket and shouted for help.

Police are continuing their investigations into the deaths.

Ohhh that poor woman, my thoughts are with her at the moment, hopefully she has plenty of family and friends to rally around her.

If this is a suicide, it is a tragic example of how selfish this act can actually be.

As the world economy tanks similar sad incidents are probable.

And yes very selfish and wasteful.

Lose of hope and or jealousy maybe. Both.

Can't keep up with the jones, sudden loss of face,

too many possibilities, and his poor mother has to live with it.

And 220v 15 amps is NOT a quick and easy exit.

450 across both arms can cause a heart attack,

but this way is too slow and miserable and

as an electrician he should have known that.

Darwin Award winner for the week.

All to sad.

My condolences to the mother and wife and GF's family too.

Certain things increase during economic down turns. Among them are :

More cheap beer is sold, but drunk at home.

More comedies are made and watched by more people. To escape for a few minutes.

More suicides occur per capita.

Within this curve, is:

Financial affairs caused mental depression.

Jealousies caused by becoming the lower dog in mates preferred pecking order.

No money, no honey. The mate changing mid-stream to a horse that eats better.

Less work and too much time to dwell on bad things.

Not eating properly causing mental instabilities.

Mondial-magnetic flux is rather low on the list or probables.

I don't know on your area, but here I didn't see any beer going cheaper in the last two years, also if you know the thailand way you should know that if something goes down with sells then they price up.

One of the first that feel an economic downturn is the entertainment business, so less money less production of drama (comedies unless are pretty bad I don't think are factor that stimulate suicide).

For the rest, if you know exactly what caused this tragedy then can be very helpful to understand if you state it, rather than trying to justifying a creative imagination.

I don't think the poster was saying that beer is becoming cheaper. But I do think that you are in agreement on a couple of points. Read again please.

You are not really reading me correctly.

I didn't say beer prices are lowered.

I said more buy cheaper priced beer and drink at home.

And that is so they don't pay entertainment establishment prices.

Yes if business goes down here they often price up.

And that drives more people with less money to the cheaper solutions.

More Lao Kao is sold in bad times vs Singha for an relative example.

Next, I said nothing about stage plays.

But between dramas, documentaries and comedy movie fare:

Comedies always do better in bad times.

People want to forget their troubles. (See Sullivan's travels)

The entertainment and advertising industries have been

operating based on these historical norms for decades.

Never said I knew what caused this tragedy, no one can.

But I was commenting that things like this may be more common,

if not this particular bizarre method, as the economy is poor now.
