Ways For Students To Earn A Little Extra Cash

Featured Replies

As an international student living in Bangkok I have found it a bit difficult to earn some spare cash. Any suggestions? Obviously I can't really get a real part time job because of the whole work permit thing.

And, yes, I know teaching English is a popular option but I am just not good at it, I've tried and failed that one already....

Legally, about your only option is to call home and ask for money.

If you're good I am sure you could get a research assistant position where the uni dragged the process of work permit.

Other than that, there is internet based business. Writing, translation, design. Keep in mind exchange rates, you don't need to work much to earn some spare cash as long as you're paid in USD.

Your best bet though is to make some friends with expats from your country and kiss some ass, they can probably hook you up with some work if they want to.

Theres always eBay - ilegal, unless you set it up right.

What happened with the teaching?

what do you mean with "illegal, unless set up right"?

well my teaching days.... first of all i despised every second of it, and second, i was just not good at.

Well, to be legal you would have to form a company which is expensive, or be employed by an existing company. I don't advise or recommend working ilegally, but many farangs do and never seem to get caught if they keep their heads down. Not something I would comfortable doing myself. A large number of teachers work openly without work permits.

gender is not irrelevant at all, if you are cute and female im sure many rich guys would love to help you out and wouldnt expect anythign in return. way of the world!

If you have a foreign bank account you can start playing poker online and earn enough to live well in Thailand.

But you have to learn the game and practise a lot first :)

Another one that only wins with gambling.Actually everyone I know that gambles does only win.I always thought where there is a winner there must be a at least 1 loser.

Not if you're the house.

:)

in poker, vast majority of losers as its a negative sum game.

still, though, plenty of 21-25 year old farang in thailand making 2 to 10+ million baht a year at it!

You might be able to befriend any and a number of Farang that own bars and eateries of every sort. Couldn't guarantee anything as they might be hesitant to hire someone under the table. You could always give it a look...

You must be joking.

What has the age to do with winning or losing and where you get your figures from?

It was probably meant to be a joke.

But it is true that a lot of younger players choose to stay in Thailand for several months or longer to play online poker.

But to be a winning player you need more than the basic skills, and I have learned the hard way, for me its a small monthly income of around $800-1000, its enough to pay for my food, drinks, clothes and anything else while I'm staying here...
