The mighty Wolves have a very active " London " support and chaps from Scandinavia who travel on a regular basis.

However, no prawn sarnies in Wolverhampton......................Trust me on this, no self respecting prawn would show up.

That's not quite true Suiging............ :)

I go over to watch Colchester quite a bit nowadays -- who also have supporters from Scandinavia for some reason. But also some ex squaddie , Wolverhampton supporters who decided to settle in Colchester (and who can blame them) after demob.

Why do most of the spammers come on here talking out of their a*se.

Is that as in " most, not all " ??? :)

Thanks Alfredo.. :D

At least you're au fait with his juvenile terminology. Until I read your reply I honestly thought that he was referring to "spammers" in the accepted internet sense of the term. Which I had previously thought ironic, given who it was that made the comment. :D

The problem with a survey like that is that most of the dedicated Hammers supporters do not live inside London but in the surrounding areas. This is also true about the Gooners fans, but all the rich yids live in the city.

In Braintree the town is split between the Gooners and West Ham, one half of the main street is Red and White the other half Claret and Blue, when those two play each other all hel_l breaks loose.

While i agree the survey is a complete load of crap, theres plenty of dedicated west ham supporters living in london, areas such as Forest gate,Stratford,Stepney,Plaistow,Manor park even out to Ilford.

Also all the rich yids i know live out of the city as a majority of there supporters do.

Funnily enough I lived in Essex, and thousands of the lads went down to the smoke to watch the boys.

The Hammers have more of a following in Essex than in the city itself.

I think you should look up the word "Spammer" in the dictionary, and then you might find that it is not the word you are looking for.

I'm Essex born and bred and can confirm that the bulk of West Ham support has always been Essex based. Even the Boleyn Ground itself was in Essex until the boundaries changed in either 1966 or 67.

ps

The City of London is irrelevant as it's only 1.12 miles square and almost completely commercial. :)

I don't understand what you're getting at here ?

Ref to alfieconns comment about me being a spammer, unless of course he cannot spell hammer!!!!!!!

Oh, I see. :D

But he has been known to make references to "Wet Spam" as well, so I thought that MSingh was probably right in his assumption that he was referring to West Ham ? Although, frankly, I've rarely seen that type of silly play on words posted, but by the pre-pubescent who occasionally post during the school holidays elsewhere. :)

Maybe he thinks it's cockney slang - Spammer = hammer

I'm pretty sure he meant " spammers " refering to us, i have Millwally Pals that use it in reference to West Ham Supporters too, not too sure on what it's mant to mean though but so be it..

Yeah West Ham have a big Essex follwoing & hardly surprising seeing as about 90% of East London have moved there in the past 30 or so Years, including all of my immediate Family..

Why that should interest you is something of a mystery. However, I must presume that you're asking whether I can provide figures supporting that the bulk West Ham supporters are Essex based ? To my knowledge , I don't believe that there's been any official survey. However, there aren't any West Ham supporters who would question that assertion, as it's generally held common knowledge.

My own initial impressions were based upon travelling to Upton Park and back on very crowded trains, caught on very crowded platforms over the course of many years, i.e Upton Park and Barking overground -- those travelling eastbound far out weighed those numbers travelling westbound from the District Line station. Plus, subsequently, that surveys taken on the two most popular West Ham forums have also verified that this is the case. Also, that by and large, the minority who live in other counties usually have historical connections with the club. Their fathers and/or other family members were West Ham supporters, and the suchlike. Only a complete fool or masochist would support West Ham for glory hunting reasons, as is the case with other "bigger clubs".

So, where do you hail from Mr. Conn ?

Essex/Herts Borders me thinks...:)

A fair guess. Harlow, for instance, has a fair number of West Ham supporters, although having Spurs as their nearest club. As you noted earlier , thousands from the East End were relocated into Essex and Hertfordshire new towns. Harlow being one of the border ones.

Why do you add these insignificant statements, Ilford has a fair number of spurs supporters although having west ham as there nearest club, all areas have a mixture of fans.

Why isn't Dagenham nearer then ? As usual unspecified, but I suppose that you mean Premiership teams ? I can't remember many Spurs fans in Ilford at all -- but I've always know of plenty of West Ham supporters from Harlow. But with your Sky generation, then I'd be willing to believe that nowadays there may be a relatively small number of Spurs and Arsenal in and around Ilford : and even up to and including East Ham and all points west.

Insignificance to you , my friend. May be of interest to others though, and especially as those comments about Harlow, the new towns and the Essex/Hertfordshire border weren't actually posted for your benefit.

A majority of my years on the north side and the last few as singhy suggested ( in essex :) ... )

Of course, those sort of sentiments might count for something if you actually knew the county.

There's bundles of T*ttenham in Ilford, i lived there for the last couple of Years i was at Home unfortunately..Ilford Post Code extends out to Barkingside/Clayhall/Gants Hill too remember which if i had to bet my life on it, i'd say there is at least as many T*ttenhma in those areas than West Ham, if not more..

I'm talking late 90's early 00's that is..

& if my memory serves me right, just as you come off the 406 at Ilford, there was a massive T*ttnehma Poster advertising the Club Shop or something also, although i do remember at one time it had 2 Tins of Claret & Blue ish Paint chucked up it, & rightly so.. :)

As I was saying about the Sky generation, etc. Although I'm going back to when there was no debate as to whether Ilford is even in Essex anymore -- I remember when Essex CC used to play over Valentines Park back then. Postcodes apart , unfortunately, the Greater London sprawl has sucked in all those parts of what was once Essex, up to Romford at least. Where I'm sure that you'll see the same amount of "foreign" shirts in what was once , as was Ilford, a hotbed of West Ham support.

Sad, but there you go.

I heard a similar stories about when they opened a Spurs shop in Chelmsford. In fact I'm not sure as to whether or not they closed it down in the end.

Anyway to stop this turning into an Essex slug fest, the answer to the OP's question is...................

FC St Pauli, Hamburg,

From a team on the edge of distinction in the viloence infested late 70's ( average gate 1900 is ) the fans themselves took control and turned the whole thing around with capacity crowds, fantastic charity events and every game a carnival in the streets around the ground. They ( fans ) have turned the whole area around St Pauli on it's head and engage the community in everything from American football ( sad ) to chess.

If only my club and perhaps even yours could boast the same..........
