Based on an assignment picked up by the research division of my company, we have a need to identify several Thai used car lot managers or owners (or senior salesmen) who would be willing to participate in a serious interview.  There would be a payout for participation - 500 to 1000 baht, depending on how knowledgeable concerning that industry.

We are seeking to interview within the greater Bangkok area.

So - if anyone's Thai neighbor, brother-in-law, father-in-law, or other relative or friend of your Thai associates is involved in the used car business (must be connected with a dealers display lot), here is a chance for them to make a small bit of pocket money.   Recent departures from such a job are also potential candidates.

Interested parties may contact me.  Thanks.

You can walk up and down Ratchadaphisek and try to interview some of those 30-40 managers.   I'm of the opinion though that 500-1000 Baht isn't much incentive for guys who sell just 2-3 cars a day at 15,000 to 30,000 Baht profit each though.

I haven't done a survey... those were just averages with the 2 lots/car tents familiar to me.

For new cars... the Honda Srinakarin dealership next to my house moves 90 cars a month average at 100k to 220k profit per car each.    Compare this to the $500 to $1000 per car average of a typical US Honda dealer.

The locals certainly know how to make a Baht when they want to.

Do you have any idea as to the overheads of these used car places, 2-3 cars a day my arse. I know a girl workng for BMW on Sri-Nakarin and the going commision is 3,000 Baht per car. As usual a Thai guy who's an expert on everything, but knows squat!

When the property is wholly owned, how much do you think the overhead is?    Consider also that much of one's stock, individual sellers pay rent to the lot.  Consider also that car tents are also offer their own 5-10% per month financing.   15-30k is the profit for the lot per car.   I wasn't talking about sales commission paid to the slaves.

As usual, a falang who makes broad generalizations after talking to 2-3 people.
