Hi folks

Im heading to Manila tomorrow, for a week, and I was thinking about getting a Non Imm "O" in the Thai embassy there.

I have used this embassy for regular tourist visas before.

This time, as already mentioned I will try the "O", based upon my marriage here in Bangkok..

Im planning to bring with me the following:

-My passport.

-Letter from my embassy in Bangkok, stating my income (much more than the 40K per month).

-Pictures.

-Application.

-Copy of wife's ID card (with her new sir name on she got from me).

-Contract for the apartment we rent in Bangkok, where my name is also printed.

-Our marriage certificate.

-Our marriage document.

-Copy of her family/home book (dont remember that name).

-Maybe a written letter from her, in Thai?

Questions:

-Do I need something else with me?

-What do I write on the application regarding "Duration of proposed stay"?

Hoping to get a 1 year, multi entry.

I normally stay in Thailand up to 2-3 months each time I come back here, before I head back to work again (for around 3 months each time).

As always, your help is appreciated.

Other than the wife it sounds like you will have all normal documents, except perhaps a copy of her name on blue book (home register where she is listed) - but Manila is often not normal. I would have that letter in reserve. Manila is not the best but as you have had luck there so far they probably can see your travel pattern. I would put 90 days as that is the max you can stay one any one entry. Do point out your travels and that extension of stay is not a good option for you if they have any doubts.

Hi there

Thnx for the reply.

My wife does not have time, as she needs to go back home for a few days (her business there).

So will the application be refused if she is with me?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

It was more of a kitchen sink type comment. Believe you will have everything you can reasonably be expected to have. But I would not say for sure it will be approved at that Consulate - they have a well derserved reputation for not being customer friendly.

Ok

thnx again.

Yes I know how difficult it can be in Manila.

I have several tourist visas from that embassy.

The guy seems to be ok.

But the female there, is nothing less than a bitch!

She seems to have a mission in life to make it as difficult for people as possible.

Either a power issue, or she has been dumped (heart broken) by a westerner, so she is after all westerners that come to that embassy.

She always comes up with new set of rules.

One time I had to write a personal letter to the consul, for a tourist visa.

One time my pictures were not ok!

Always something with her, so I normally try to "over kill it" with more info than needed there.

I know could go to another place, but I need to go to Manila, due to my job sometimes, so I always try dealing with the visa issues at the same time.

thnx again for the help.

Wow, can't believe the problems you have in Manila. All I needed for my non-im O was a copy of my marriage certificate!

Finally got it, or at least some sort of visa, after a new personal letter to the Consul explaining why I applied in Manila, and not in Europe.

But Im not sure what this really is?

Can anyone explain this?

The regular entry stamp I got in the pass port tells I need to leave before the 20th of November.

Have to leave for work anyhow around the 24th of September.

How can I cange it to 1 year visa with multi entries?

(I applied for multi entry).

have tried to attach a picture of the visa.

You received a single entry non immigrant O visa (the "S" is single). As your entry used the visa it is marked used and no longer valid.

It's a single entry O visa. You can't change it to a multiple entry visa here. You could get an extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai. And get a multiple re-entry permit.

You would have to get it done quick because you will have a 30 day wait period before you get your extension. It appears you already have proof of income already so all you have to do is get the documents all together and get to immigration and see if they will do it early. The norm is within the last 30 days of you permit to stay.

How long will you be gone when you go to work? Since your permit to stay is until November you could go to immigration and get a re-entry permit and do the extension when you come back. That would allow you to come back using the re-entry permit until November.

You have been given a single entry (90 day) visa which has to be used by 17th Nov. You will get a 90 day permission to stay on entering Thailand. That is not unusual for consulates in the region as you are expected to extend your stay for 12 months (based on marriage) in Thailand. You can then obtain a multi-entry re-entry permit which will allow you to travel in/out Thailand during your permission to stay period.

Thank you very much for all the replies guys.

I really appreciate it.

Let me see if I got this right.

The Visa is now used, so it is only good for the days left on it.

Just as if I had a tourist visa.

Correct?

I will leave for work (just a bit earlier than expected) around the 24th of September.

This means that I will most likely NOT get the visa changed at Immigration here in Bkk, to a 1 year, multi entry?

Correct?

So I guess my only option is to try to do it again before I come back again from work (after prox 3,5 months time), with a planned 3 months vacation here? And then try to change it to a 1 year, multi entry, at Immigration in Bkk, after about 60 days?

Correct?

You could come back and get a 30 day entry and rush to immigration and apply for a change of visa status at immigration in Bangkok if that is where you are living. You have to do it within 8 days of your arrival because you have to make the application when you have a least 21 days left on your permit to stay. You probably will have to get a new income letter from your embassy since the one you have will be several months old.

When you do a change of visa status it is a 2 step process. First the change (2000 baht) that gives you a O visa entry and then the extension of stay (1900 baht). You have to submit the same paperwork both times).

You can not change to a mutl entry visa in Thailand. Believe you are talking about one year extension of stay. That in itself does not allow travel but you can obtain a multi re-entry permit for 3,800 baht more that does allow you to travel.

If you explain your situation there is a chance they will accept your extension application eary but as it seems you have less than one month it is probably already too late this time.

So yes you plan to do next time sounds right - try to obtain a new non immigrant O visa for that entry.

But if you plan to continue travel to work and return for less than 90 days each time a real multi entry non immigrant O visa would probably be a better choice - some Consulates will issue them in your situation - but not Manila.
