As a testament to what you are saying... It's been quite a fall from his hey day....

He's currently ranked in the ATP at 88th.... :o

Which is even lower than the other Thai, Danai Udomchoke, who is ranked 86th.

Can Natalie get him to come up?

Meanwhile, on Tata's side of the court... she's in hot water from the Culture Ministry over her recent concert in which she pranced around far too provocatively for "Thai standards of deceny"...

Double standards again... :o

Anyone see the provocative dancing on "The Singer" on Thai TV 3 last night?

Same same... but different.

Accuse them of double standards and then they will start shooting from the hip (pardon the crap pun). Crackdown's (god) ahoy (I'll stop now).

Paradorn's potential in-laws? The parents of former Miss Universe Natalie Glebova arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport yesterday. Glebova and tennis ace Paradorn Srichaphan are expected to announce their engagement tomorrow.

The Bangkok Herald-Examiner is looking into a story that initially they had been stamped in for only 1 day, because their 6 month block of visa-less entry from their last entry into Thailand ended tomorrow which would have necessitated a border run to Poipet tomorrow in a cramped mini-bus, but that it somehow all got smoothed over.

I hear it's not so much what you know as it is who you know. :o

Yes... the ballroom at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok:

is a decidedly better place to hold the all-important news conference as opposed to a dusty street corner in Poipet:

Particularly when it's only because they happened to visit Thailand for a week-end just shy of 6 months ago.

Tourism Minister congratulates Paradorn for finding his soul mate

Tourism and Sports Minister Suwit Yodmanee congratulates Thai tennis star Paradorn Srichaphan for finding his soul mate, who turns out to be Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova.

Mr. Suwit says Mr. Paradorn is a good man and has brought fame to the country. The minister says he personally believes the marriage of Mr. Paradorn will not lower his tennis-playing standard. In contrast, he believes the marriage may help improve his form.

Mr. Suwit says he was once an athlete, and he knows that athletes have many issues to think about, causing their forms to drop. However, if the athlete has found his or her soul mate, the person will then be motivated. Mr. Suwit says Mr. Paradorn is still strong and energetic. He says many people may envy the Thai tennis ace since he has found the best prize of his life.

Guessed wrong on the above.... it's going to be the Sukhothai Hotel's ballroom and not the Shangri-La Hotel, but that still beats the dusty street corner rather handily.... hats off to Immigration for allowing the announcement to be held in Bangkok.

Ball bounces into love

It's game, set and a perfect match for Thailand's renowned tennis ace Paradorn Srichaphan

He might not be having the best of times on court lately, but the love result is definitely in his favour as he prepares to announce his engagement to former Miss Universe Natalie Glebova in a private ceremony today.

To seal the engagement, he plans to give her a three carat diamond ring worth a cool Bt10 million.

Super Ball, as the high profile star with a trail of broken hearts behind him is known, will also speak out about why he has decided to tie the knot with one of the world's most beautiful women.

In the past, he quietly eased away from any efforts to get married despite the string of beautiful women he dated. He simply let it be known that he would not have a family until he was over 30.

In the meantime, Asia's number one tennis player *they need to refer to the official ATP rankings I posted earlier... :o * was wooing dozens of beautiful models and stars around the world like pop singer Tata Young and super model Odette Henriette Jacqmin.

But Paradorn is now 28. Love has bloomed.

News of his impending engagement to the Canadian whose family emigrated from Russia has created a storm around the country

Natalie was crowned Miss Universe in Bangkok in 2005. Initially there were no signs at all that Paradorn had a serious interest in Natalie.

Dribs and drabs of rumour, gossip and speculation did the usual rounds of newspaper columns and Web boards. But it was so low key that it appeared even Natalie's parents, Vlad Slezin and Anna Gelbora, were not aware of the impending engagement.

The Srichaphan family is being very supportive of their youngest son. Mother Ubol, who in the past has been very protective of Paradorn, has changed her tune. She says she will love any girl that her son loves. In times past, Ubol would put on the overbearing mother act by screening any young ladies trying to become a part of Paradorn's life.

Paradorn met Natalie during the Thailand Open last year. At first, people thought there might be a brief romance between the two. But tongues ran wild when Natalie gave Paradorn a peck on his cheek as a reward for his quarterfinal win over Tim Henman.

As brand ambassadors for Boonrawd Brewery, Natalie and Paradorn came together for the company's promotional and social activities. A visit to Wat Prabatr Nampu in Saraburi changed the course of their lives. Natalie was touched when she saw Paradorn's affection for kids affected by HIV.

It seems their relationship has been building up quietly ever since. Even last month when Paradorn attended Danai Udomchoke's book launch, nobody suspected romance was blossoming.

Paradorn might be lucky in love but he's not quite as fortunate when it comes to tennis, which has consumed his life. He has been bothered by a severe wrist injury, which has resulted in him making a series of firstround exits.

Some blame Natalie for distracting him, for the tennis ace is truly smitten. But as he says: "I'm already 28 and I have to take a relationship seriously. Soon my career will be over and then it will be time to move on to the next phase of my life."

There is very little for Paradorn to do to prepare for his engagement. Having the cast on his injured right wrist removed and the arm checked was one of his more significant activities yesterday.

Meanwhile his family and his intended's had dinner together last night at the Oriental Hotel and will formally announce the engagement today at the Sukhothai Hotel.
