an aquaintance has told me that the thai government is possibly changing the amount needed for a non-imm O-A retirement visa from 800,000 to 1,500,000 baht.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this issue?

Actually it is 800,000 Baht or the equivalent currency in the country you apply for the O-A Visa.

It is 800,000 Baht in a Thai Bank for a 12 month Extension in Thailand.

Yes nothing has changed.

I posted in good faith to be sure I do not have insufficient funds in Kasikorn when I apply for my visa.

I will also add that the person who gave me the information is a well respected and knowledgable farang bar owner in Pattaya. He is not a rumor monger. If he has gotten wind of something through the news or discussion with immigration authorities, it may be more than unfounded rumor.

And you have every right to do so.

You will have no problem. It is a rumour.

It is an extension NOT a Visa. :)

Yes, but, despite my other recent post, I may apply for my visa here in the Staes. I am just evaluating options.

Yes. O-A Visa. 800,000 Baht if going the Money in the bank route. Plus Police Report and Medical.

Police Report and Medical not needed if apply for an Extension in Thailand.

Up to you.

I heard the same thing and hope it's not true. I just renewed my ret visa and no official told me about this. So it could be a rumour. But why not tell it ?

But why not tell it ?

Because it is upsetting to people for no rational reason, that's why. I have noticed in the past such rumors have been closed and think this is a good candidate as well. In the event the rumor turns out to be true, the topic will be very big news indeed. Cheers.

An oxymoron?

The same bloke who told you that you can get an O-A visa in Jomtien?

:)

Now that is unfair to blame him for my misunderstanding of the nuanced differences of the terminology and the options available.

IMHO, that was a cheap shot!

I am simply implying your bar sources of info on both of your recent queries are suspect, that's all. You have come to the right place now for CREDIBLE info, good on you, and good night.

BTW, what exactly is the benefit of keeping "news" of this false rumor alive?

On the other hand it might be logical.

Seen the shrink of tourism, and without doubt "pensionado's", why not make the numbers even less?

Based on history, if/when they do eventually raise the retirement financial requirements, those currently here on the current levels will likely be grandfathered on the old levels. Cheers.
