Goran Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Hi. I'm asking this in behalf of my friend. He is top quality percussionist, playing in orchestra in national theater and in some other projects. Traveling around the world and playing, but he recently visited Thailand and he fell in love with it so he would like to investigate his possible opportunities in LOS. So, if someone has an idea where could he start to ask I would appreciate it. Something like symphony orchestra or similar. Thanks in advance
pdavids Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I'm not sure on this, but think you'll find that work in a symphony orchestra, etc is one of the jobs restricted to Thais only. I watched a symphony orchestra on Thai TV only last week and there were no foreigners in it. When I first came to Thailand over a decade ago, many hotels and bars featured Filipino groups or singers - who were generally outstanding. The govt. eventually cracked down on them and left us with a multitude of off key Thai groups and singers. I can't imagine they'll be any kinder on an expat percussionist. His best bet might be as a music teacher, either with a school or privately.
opalhort Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Do a GOOGLE for "Bangkok symphony orchestra" You'll probably find some contact info somewhere. They should know if recruiting a foreigner is possible or not. opalhort
