Residency When To Apply

When I went to Suan Plu a few months ago, the kind officer told me that they will open up for residency in October. I then had business there again, went up stairs and asked just to confirm - a different officer said she is not sure but maybe in November. I have then read on several threads on the internet that immigration opens the last few weeks of the year in December. On the application itself it says to check the Thai Immigration web site or the government gazette, the web site thus far has given me no information. I do not know where to find the gazette. I appreciate any help on this matter.

It will be in December. That is the only thing that is certain. The last 2 weeks sounds about right.

Edit: Last years the notice was posted on immigrations website on the 16th of December and applications were accepted from the 18th to the 30th. But the notice was dated the 9th.

Its not (quite) as scary as the above post sounds. For some reason all applications since the 2005 lot have been 'stuck' somewhere. They haven't been rejected (or approved), just 'stuck'!

If you read the above thread it seem like both the 2006 and 2007 sets are very near completion now, though.

I applied in 2006, and was told when I made my first enquiry, somewhere around this time of the year I seem to recall, that I could bring my documents in as soon as they were ready. It is probably worth calling in whenever you are nearby, and seeing what they say. As you have probably found out already, the people are very friendly and helpful.

I applied in 2006 December but I started gathering all the information together for the application a couple of months before. UK Police reports etc, transalation of English Documents into Thai and having them notarised etc.

As another post has confirmed due to the changes of Governments and Interior Minister who approves no decisions have been made though am informed all applications now processed and my last info. was a result expected by end of this year but am not holding my breath.

Thank you to everyone that replied to my question. I am nearly ready to submit with the exception of some documents from the revenue department. It's a grind getting the documents together. I will wait until November then, to get the medical check up. All of the other documents are nearly ready. I will just have to keep looking at the Immigration web site to make sure they don't change any date. Odd how the official told me they will open in October - perhaps he was thinking about the Immigration office moving in October. I cannot see how he got that mixed up but here in good old Thailand, often people will state something even when it is not always "so." We spoke in Thai but to me it was clear as a bell what he said. Certainly this residency is almost proving more hassle than it is worth; I have had a Thai wife visa that serves me well. If Suan Plu is no longer going to be there, then perhaps the residency will be worth it because of the 90 day reporting rule for none residence.
