I have a question....

If i am a US citizen and i want to stay in thailand for 3-6 months with multiple entries since i will be going in/out of thailand

to malaysia, laos, burma but i will be staying for up to 40 days each time..

what do you recommend?

should i enter thailand and if i stay for longer than 30 days.. do a border run and get extra 30 days?

what are options since id like to have the freedom to also stay in thailand for full 3 months without hassle of dealing with visas

thanks

You could get a tourist visa with as many entries as you want. Each entry will be for 60 days.

I suggest you get a 3 entry visa which is commonly given without a problem in the states. You should apply at one of the honorary consulates that are listed on this webpage by using the pulldown menu. http://www.thaiembdc.org/AboutEmb/EmbDirect.aspx

They all do mail in applications and normally turn those around the same day received. Do not use one of the 3 official consulates or the embassy they take as much as 10 days to do mail in applications and will ask for a lot more documents and etc. than the honorary consulates.

If you find that 3 entries is not enough then you can go to immigration during any of your entries and get a re-entry permit that will keep that entry valid until the 60 day you got on entry ends.

Edit: You will only get 15 days at border crossings now if you do not have a visa. You still get 30 dayz by air.

Also each tourist visa entry can be extended for 30 days at immigration.
