Red shirts to rally on coup anniversary

The red shirts will rally on September 19 to mark the third anniversary of the 2006 coup regardless of whether or not

the government invokes the security law, co-organiser Veera Musigapong said yesterday.

The planned rally for tomorrow and the one for next Saturday have been cancelled to avoid giving the government a pretext to enforce security measures.

"Even though the government might invoke the Internal Security Act, we have to go ahead and rally on September 19 rally to mark the shameful power seizure," he said.

Between now and the upcoming rally, the red shirts will participate in a series of seminars, organised in lieu of cancelled rallies, to raise awareness on their political struggle, he said.

The seminar series will be launched on September 12-13 at the office of Truth Today, located on Lat Phrao Road.

Another co-organiser, Natthawut Saikua, said the September 19 rally will be peaceful and last one day.

Natthawut said the red shirts deemed it unnecessary to quicken the government's exit since the coalition was plagued by infighting.

The coalition will soon collapse under its own weight, he said.

Red-shirt lawyer Kharom Pholthaklang said he was helping surviving victims of the April anti-riot operation and the families of those killed to sue the government for damages via criminal and civil proceedings.

Kharom said the recent circulation of an audio clip purported to show the prime minister ordering the crackdown had provided a key evidence to build up the case against Abhisit Vejjajiva. He did not touch on the issue of whether the clip was doctored.

As the red shirts have cancelled the rally planned for today, the government has decided not to enforce the security law, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said.

Interesting that they still push people killed during Songkhran when to date no evidence has been produced and even in the international arena it is beleived that no red deaths occurred.

Still in political struggle everything is propoganda espially in the more belief based world in which we now live.

Always interesting to see what protagonists say to further their cause.

Red shirts to rally on coup anniversary

Of course they are, they can't miss a good excuse.

Well suing for the 'alleged victim's' families is aweful bright,

since they MUST prove these people are gone...

And the families must represent themselves in court and sign charges.

Let's see how many volunteer for perjury charges if they understand the risks.

According to "Truth today" thousands were killed.

CNN and BBC was told by the government not to report it.

The international press was well represented on the ground during Black Songkran. They didn't report murders of red shirt because they didn't happen. They did report atrocities committed by the red shirts because they did happen. The biggest story of that Thaksin fiasco was the remarkable restraint shown by the Abhisit government.

I don't believe this for a second. If CNN and BBC just gave in to requests like that there would never be any news reported.

I think it was stated extremely tongue-in-cheek.

Yep, you are clearly right. Very silly of me to think we had another bona fide Kookoo in our midst.

i don't get the punch line. usually bbc got criticise by the narrow minded overemotional thaksin haters for their reports on the political situation and on the reds.

that goes so far that the bbc or the 'international media' got accused to be be paid by thaksin and are part of his propaganda strategy.

hyperbole, exaggeration, lack of facts is a trait of comments by narrow minded overemotional thaksin haters.

I think rain is the least of their worries. The Redskirt ranks continue to splinter and the overall group lacks organisation, so numbers would be low anyway. The ISA has been an excuse not to expose these factors in hopes the leadership can cajole bigger numbers. However the anniversary of the coup is strategically a good choice of days as they may be able to cull a contingent of non-Reds who opposed the coup.

They are still pushing the seemingly spliced file and on Friday they wheeled out two dudes with injuries who claimed to have been shot at Songkhran. The run up to the demo has started but as of now it doesnt seem to have the smooth PR feel to it that previous red PR campaigns have. We will see. It is still a bunch of days away and apart from reds there will also be anti-coup people possibly interested. In the meantime the PR game will be worth a watch.

Would it not make more sense to rally in December, to celebrate the return to electoral-democracy last year, then everybody might join in, not just the committed red-shirted 'true-democrats' ?

Or does good news not have the same attraction, or potential for inflamed supporters, to their organisers/leader ? :)

Now when is the decision on asset seizure going to be made? Keep it in perspective.

Judgment possibly by Ides of October (15)... beware,

or as late as Ides of November (13) beware even more.

Yes, regardless of the other issues bandied about,

the real 900 lb gorilla in the corner is Thaksin's money on the block.

As with most extra large animals that can rip of limbs, it is hard to ignore,

especially if it hasn't been fed lately. This sucker is famished.
