I recently read within the last couple of weeks, about a member who returned to thailand from holiday abroad and had about one month left on his current visa before renewal was required. Apparently when he re-entered Thailand, he was given a one year extension to his current visa at the airport, without the necessity for proof of earnings or banking,. I may be wrong but I also believe he was not required to pay the usual 1900 Baht visa renewal fee.

I have searched the forum posts and can not find the article...Can anyone please assist me in locating the post or forum.

Many thanks everyone.

That would apply to those holding a multiple entry O-A visa (retirement visa). Yes they would get stamped in an extra year even if reentering Thailand a day before the visa expiry, and no, there would no fee or application. After that "extra" year is up, the game is over though, such people then generally apply for annual extensions in Thailand if they wish to continue their stay.
